Qualifications
Education/Certification
Valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B) with passenger and school bus endorsementsTAPT Official Certification (preferred)TEEX Train the trainer school bus driver instructor certified or within 90 days of hireSpecial Knowledge/Skills
Effective telephone and communication skillsAbility to receive and give verbal instructions effectivelyAbility to pass alcohol, drug test, and DOT physicalProficient map reading skillsKnowledge in the use of Excel, Word and internetKnowledge of student discipline procedureMust possess personal qualities related to respect for the rights and confidentiality of othersExperience
Experience as certified school bus driver a plusIf no experience, must be able to obtain a CDLMajor Responsibilities and Duties
Essential Functions
Coordinate and schedules assignments of bus drivers, bus routes, vehicles, and substitutes for am, midday and pm shiftsDispatch drivers and vehicles and communicate with them using a telephone and two-way radioNotify drivers, parents, and school personnel of any changes in a student's bus service; (i.e. an address change, change in pick-up and drop-off location, change in time or bus change)Maintain good public relations with students, parents and school personnelInteract with special program administrators and school officials concerning transportation of special education studentsProcess student behavioral/safety referrals the day referral is generatedInvestigate reports of student safety incidents through conference with students, parents, drivers and campus administrators as necessaryAssess reported student safety incidents and take necessary corrective action to include appropriate student discipline, for driver/monitor counseling refer to all to supervisor of drivers/monitorsCoordinate school bus driver/monitor safety/evacuation trainingSupport the District and Transportation Department through strong work ethic and punctual attendanceAll other duties as assignedRecords Maintenance
Maintain mileage records on all bus routes and travelMaintain log book and record student head count to facilitate writing copying and distribution of change notices to transportation personnel, parents and schoolsKeep a log book and record all special education two-way radio transmissionsMaintain records on all drivers including extracurricular drivers pertaining to physical, driver certification and license checkMaintain logs on communication with pertinent personnel regarding confirmations, cancellations, and changesVehicle Operation
Serve as substitute bus driverStudent Management
Supervisor students while they board and leave the bus and cross the streetInstruct students on safe riding rules and regulationsSafety
