Clean Harbors is looking for a Sr EHS Compliance Auditor to sit in Norwell, MA. Plans and conducts audits of internal controls covering a broad range of the company’s operations to determine if functional areas are conducting operations in accordance with established guidelines, policies, procedures and governmental and legal requirements. Performs auditing duties of a complex nature requiring advanced professional knowledge and experience in auditing principles and practices. Works with broad discretion as to work details on assignments of a varied and difficult nature. Conducts, or is responsible for, project staff involved in the examination of a wide variety of activities. Examines records, documents, methods, policies, costs and other factors to determine if functional areas are conducting operations in accordance with established guidelines, policies, procedures and governmental and legal requirements. Coordinates the preparation of reports summarizing audit results. Makes recommendations regarding corrective action and reviews audit findings with managers. Provides work leadership to lower-level auditing personnel on complex audits. May review their progress and work for adequacy, method, and procedures. May act as Audit Supervisor for an audit team assigned to a specific function or operational area. Plans methods to be followed in the conduct of audits, recommends activities to be examined, the extent of examination and establishes completion schedules. Develops audit programs for specific audits or operating entities. Assists external auditors as necessary.

Partner effectively with operations, compliance and legal organizations to develop and execute internal EHS compliance audit programs.

Develop audit programs, lead and conduct EHS audits of company processes and at company facilities;

Develop, plan, create audit tools, and lead audits of internal controls covering a broad range of EHS topics and the company’s processes and operations;

Examine operations, records, documents, methods, policies, and other factors to identify EHS compliance risk areas and determine if functional areas are conducting operations in accordance with established guidelines, policies, procedures, and governmental and legal requirements;

Leverage technology to identify, source and analyze source information and data efficiently.

Develop recommendations, corrective actions and implementation schedules and inclusively review audit findings with operational managers, compliance functions and leadership;

Communicate significant findings/issues to management and the Director of Compliance Audit, as necessary;

Prepare audit reports including corrective action plans and implementation schedules. Monitor the execution of corrective actions and communicate metrics to leadership;

Develop and communicate audit program updates to the Executive Audit Steering Committee, as requested.

Partner effectively and support operations and compliance organizations to develop and execute corrective actions, as requested by the Director of Compliance Audit.

Provide corrective action follow-up and ensure that regulatory compliance is achieved in a timely manner;

Mentor junior staff; and

Other duties, as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in environmental and/or science discipline.

5+ years of experience leading EHS programs and/or conducting EHS audits, inspections, investigations, and leading issue resolution;

Superior organizational management, administration, and communication skills;

Ability to complete tasks independently and within or leading a team;

Exceptional professional judgment, consistency, and strong attention to detail;

Demonstrated performance of analysis, problem solving, and strong organizational skills;

Experience preparing reports that demonstrate technical knowledge;

Strong time management, multi-tasking, problem solving and decision-making skills;

Computer literate (familiar with Microsoft programs such as MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and have proficient written and oral skills;

CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager), CEA (Certified Environmental Auditor) and OSHA certifications are a plus;

Working knowledge of multiple Federal, State and Provincial regulations, such as EPA (RCRA, SARA/CERCLA, TSCA, CWA, and CAA), OSHA, PHMSA, and FRA is desired;

Must wear PPE as necessary (hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, Tyvek, etc.);

Must be able to walk up to 5 miles daily, stand, climb, stoop, bend, and lift;

Must be available for travel (including overnight) to facilities, meetings and assigned tasks as needed;

Ability to travel frequently 60%+ within the continental US and Canada
