Working Schedule:

Schedule may vary with hours increasing during peak periods up to 40 hours per week, up to 1039 hours in a 12-month period.The Bus Driver schedule is dependent on the needs of the College, and usually involves the transport of non-credit students to points of interest in Western Lane County. This as-needed schedule is arranged with the driver in advanced and can take place at any time throughout the week.

Required QUALIFICATIONSRequired Education:High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Experience:Experience with driving a transit, school, or transport bus with fifteen (15) or more passengers aboard in a safe, professional, and legal manner.

Licensure or Certification RequirementsA valid Oregon Driver's License is required.

Preferred QUALIFICATIONSPreferred Education

Associates degree or higher.Commercial Driver's License (Class B or better) with a Passenger endorsement.

Preferred Experience

Experience in with driving for a wide variety of patrons in both the public and private setting (school bus, college, charter, etc.)Evidence of a customer service orientation that provides a balance of efficiency/safety and hospitality to those on the bus.

Position Purpose:Provide safe professional and legal transportation for students, faculty , staff and other designated participants on a college-owned vehicle for specific and special occasions.

Essential Functions:

Drives a van with up to fourteen (14) passengers aboard in a safe and legal manner.Requires manual dexterity and good visual acuity.Maintains current Oregon Driver's License.Recognizes and assists in providing accommodation for passengers with disabilities and the elderly.Provides a preliminary and post safety check on the vehicle at the beginning and conclusion of the ride.Follows directions, acts in a professional and courteous manner.Follows college policies and procedures. Transportation for special events will be arranged and overseen in advance with the Florence Center staff under the supervision of a Dean.Maintains communication with Dean or designated staff regarding passenger and vehicle issues.Works Safely and within guidelines established by, OSHA, the College, and the Florence Center.Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.Other duties as assigned.Equity and Inclusion

Supervision Statement:Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Division Dean. Work may be led or coordinated by lead worker. Work is performed independently using specialized experience and training. Work is reviewed for the quality of assistance provided.

This position may have responsibility to assign tasks, provide priorities and train student assistants and hourly employees.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:Work safely and adhere to college workplace safety rules and regulations; lift or transport up to thirty-five (35) lbs with or without support. Ability to drive up to 8 hours per day. This position may work with individuals who may be hostile or abusive.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Knowledge and Skill in:

Interpersonal communications.Following instructions.Knowledge of the department's philosophy and policies.Driving and operating a vehicle with an orientation toward ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers as well as proper driving techniques.Ability to:

Ability to drive in severe weather conditions, difficult and/or congested traffic, and/or in a conflict or escalated noise between passengers on the vehicle.Work effectively under pressure and independently as necessary.Keep the vehicle interior safe and clean during operation.Work and lift safely.
