Job Description

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Performs a wide variety of electro-mechanical assembly operations on sub-assemblies. Follows methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering, and cable harnessing on assembly units. Makes setups and adjustments holding tolerances to blueprint specifications. Performs testing of sub-assemblies and participates in improvements to manufactured products and processes.

CORE DUTIES:

1. Independently produce high-quality, complex electro-mechanical optical instruments, including mechanical assembly, alignment of motors, gears, and optical components using custom fixtures, basic hand tools, and soldering. Must be cross trained to independently produce at least 50% of the instrument types manufactured.

2. Perform basic troubleshooting on electro-mechanical sub-assemblies.

3. Assure system and product quality by testing sub-assemblies to confirm fabrication, assembly, and installation processes. Document actions by completing production and quality forms.

4. Identify opportunities for operational improvements and participate in projects or process improvements to achieve overall company objectives for cost, quality, delivery, and safety.

5. Provide Design for Manufacturability feedback to the engineering team.

6. Collaborate with other functions to resolve manufacturing problems and develop product design improvements.

7. Report material discrepancies to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.

8. Maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.

9. Participate in PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) updates each year.

10. Utilize various mechanical and electrical test equipment.

11. Participate in the technical documentation review and development process.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School diploma or proven work experience that ensures you are ready to be successful in this role.

2. Minimum of 1-3 years' production manufacturing assembly-related experience.

3. Ability to learn quickly and demonstrated attention to detail. Problem solver and solution oriented.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience with technical and operational manufacturing process details.

2. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in the fabrication of electro-mechanical components and assemblies.

3. Solid knowledge of equipment, systems, and techniques appropriate for debugging mechanical and electrical systems.

4. Experience with medical device or instrumentation production manufacturing assembly.

5. Experience in electro-mechanical testing.

6. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing processes and associated tools.

7. Knowledge of SAP (preferred but not mandatory).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to occasionally move objects weighing up to 70 pounds for up to one hour per day and perform building-related construction and maintenance work.

2. Ability to remain stationary for long periods, kneel, crouch, etc.

3. Fine motor skills for long periods to assemble delicate components.

4. Good vision for fine inspection of units.

5. Ability to work in areas of limited space.

6. Ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, lab coats, etc.
