Reports to the Clinical Manager. Evaluates patients and plans treatment programs. Also, performs occupational therapy procedures to restore function, prevent disability and maximize potential and quality of life following disease, injury or surgery.MISSION, VALUES and SERVICE GOALSMISSION:

Personally connect. Keep everyone informed. Be on their team.Provides occupational therapy procedures for patients to restore function, prevent disability and maximize potential and quality of life by:

Evaluating and assessing patients.Planning appropriate treatment based on the referral and evaluation and establishing reasonable goals.Educating the patient and/or care giver regarding treatment goals, treatment methods, and potential treatment outcome(s).Performing treatments according to established plans and ensuring that the patient is progressing toward stated goals, while utilizing appropriate procedures, equipment and techniques within the scope of occupational therapy.Instructing patients and/or family members in home programs, injury prevention, etc.Documenting in the medical record according to established criteria.Reevaluating patients and assessing their progress; also making recommendations regarding disposition.Communicating, verbally and in writing, with other healthcare professionals including patient referral sources.Supports the department by:

Participating in work rotations, weekend and weekday hours.Leading or directing the activities of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA), Occupational Therapy Assistants, attendants, volunteers, aides and Interns; ensuring that department policies and procedures are enforced, and quality patient care is provided.Participating in staff meetings, rehabilitation team and orthopedic conferences and other meetings as needed or required.Assisting with departmental maintenance and supplies.Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:

Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.Complies with established organization and department policies.Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.Commitment to Beacon's six-point Operating System, referred to as The Beacon Way:

The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctoral degree of Occupational Therapy from an accredited school of occupational therapy. Requires a license to practice occupational therapy in Indiana or demonstrated eligibility.Knowledge & Skills

Requires the ability to effectively use all evaluation tools, modalities, exercise equipment, ADL aides, and splinting/orthotic materials typically used to provide occupational therapy.Demonstrates interpersonal skills needed to communicate in a tactful, sincere, effective manner with patients, families, healthcare professionals and various Hospital staff.Must maintain current BLS certification.Working Conditions

Works in a patient care environment requiring physical exertion, frequent changes in job demands, and certain undesirable patient care activities.May be exposed to biohazards and normal hazards encountered in a community environment.Physical Demands

Requires the physical ability, stamina, visual acuity, and manual dexterity (i.e. to sit/stand/walk for prolonged periods of time, push wheelchairs/carts, lift or pull patients or supplies, lift and transfer patients, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
