The Occupational Therapist II (OT II) is an excellent opportunity for qualified professionals to make a significant difference in the lives of the individuals that are supported by the Department of Mental Health (DMH). The OT IIserves as director and supervisor of Occupational Therapy Services, developing and implementing policies and procedures to assure the rehabilitation mission of Cape Cod & Islands Community Mental Health Center. The OT II Supervises occupational therapy staff and student interns, vocational and recreational staff as assigned. Oversees the entire group therapy schedule of the 16 bed Inpatient Unit. _Please Note:_ * This is a *temporary position, 40 hours per week to cover an employee on leave. The duration of this position will cease when this position is no longer required. The incumbent will work on the day shift from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The days off are Sunday and Saturday. /_ _/ _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_ * Coordinates and oversees the group therapy program on the Inpatient Unit. Ensures that all groups are scheduled and covered seven days per week. * Ensures the completion of occupational therapy assessments on every admission. * Participates in service planning and completion of admission and comprehensive treatment plans. * Provides OT services to patients on the IPU by leading groups, writing group notes and weekly progress notes on each patient. * Maintain policies and procedures for occupational therapy services consistent with the goals and objectives of the CCICMHC and requirements of accrediting and regulatory agencies. * Supervises Occupational Therapy staff to ensure the highest level of care. * Establish and maintain Internship Program for students in registered occupational therapy programs to provide necessary human resources as well as to enrich the organization through connection with new practitioners in the field. * Participates in peer supervision with other OTR(s) by providing opportunities for observation and quality review records to demonstrate continuing competency in the practice of occupational therapy. * Communicates with individuals/clients, on a as needed basis, appropriate to age, cultural or spiritual needs, by referring or directing individuals to the proper personnel/agency. * Serve as a member of the Leadership Team and participate in meetings as needed. * * * *_Required Qualifications:_ * Possess and maintain a current valid license to practice as a Registered Occupation Therapist in Massachusetts. * Knowledge and established experience with Occupational Therapy Assessment tools of diagnostic and prognostic testing relative to Occupational Therapy. * Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished. Knowledge of subordinates’ capabilities and available resources. Determining training needs and arranging for such; motivating supervisees to work effectively, determining needs for disciplinary or merit action. * Ability to establish rapport with others, engender harmonious working relationships, demonstrate sensitivity to populations. * Knowledge of factors, current trends, and constraints in provision of psychiatric occupational therapy service * _ Preferred Qualifications: * * Three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience as an occupational therapist of which at least two years must have been in a supervisory, administrative, or managerial capacity, is preferred. * Knowledge of regulations, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines governing the rehabilitation services, inpatient unit care and Mass DMH.* * * CPR certification. * Knowledge of community resources in the Cape Cod and Islands. * Knowledge of the organization process in the work setting. * Knowledge of special needs of adolescents, adults and geriatric clients/patients. * Knowledge of spiritual/cultural needs of the clients/patients served. * Comprehension of mission, philosophy and treatment principles of the psychiatric rehabilitation process. * DMH Vision and Mission: * The Department of Mental Health, as the State Mental Health Authority, assures and provides access to services and supports to meet the mental health needs of individuals of all ages, enabling them to live, work and participate in their communities.
