Description:
This is a professional position in a large mental health facility. The incumbent is expected to maintain a positive and professional attitude and manner at all times in a cost effective, customer-oriented manner. Follows medical ethics and standards in an outcome oriented management system. While maintaining sensitivity to the constitutional rights of patients.
Duties & Responsibilities/Examples of Work:
Evaluates abnormal physical conditions and illness of hospital patients and prescribes medication as necessary. Conducts daily rounds in assigned ward. Provides coverage in the NEFSH Medical Triage Area (MTA) per rotation schedule.
Performs physical examinations and establishes diagnoses of physical disorders and instates treatment of patients in an outcome oriented state mental hospital.
Consults with other physicians, makes consultation referrals, reviews consultation reports and as a result, institutes medical treatment and follow-up to ensure excellence of treatment and customer satisfaction.
Provides emergency treatment to patients and employees in the Medical Triage Area and on the living areas if necessary.
Performs minor surgical procedures, treats minor injuries and provides follow-up care if needed. Orders laboratory tests and x-ray.
Investigates cases of contagious disease and other unusual illness and takes appropriate prophylactic and therapeutic action. Attends regularly scheduled clinical meetings and participates in committee assignments as necessary.
Participates in NEFSH Continuing Medical Education program to ensure excellent treatment.
Participates in scheduled meetings, as needed, as a member of the multidisciplinary therapeutic team involved in the treatment of patients. Documents in the medical record in legible handwriting.
Discusses patient status with guardian or relatives and assists them to better understand the patient’s illness and treatment to enhance satisfaction and understanding of treatment provided. Prepares discharge summary in accordance to NEFSH protocols.
Accepts clinical assignments based on hospital need as directed by Medical Executive Director and/or the Chief of Primary Care Services.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Licensure as a physician pursuant to Chapter 458, Florida Statutes, and two years of post-licensure professional experience in the practice of medicine; or License as an osteopathic physician pursuant to Chapter 459, Florida Statutes, and two years of post-licensure professional experience in the practice of osteopathic medicine.
Certification by a recognized board in a medical specialty area can substitute for the required experience.
