Location:Milford High SchoolPosition Summary: A school bus driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school activities, ensuring their safety and well-being during transit, and adhering to a strict schedule. The role requires compliance with traffic regulations, safety protocols, and the school district's transportation policies.Key Responsibilities:Transportation and Safety:Drive a school bus along designated routes, ensuring the timely pick-up and drop-off of students.Maintain order and discipline on the bus, enforcing rules to ensure the safety of all passengers.Assist students, particularly young children or those with disabilities, with boarding and exiting the bus safely.Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, checking for any mechanical issues, fluid levels, and ensuring the bus is clean and well-maintained.Appropriately secure students in a wheelchair or with disabilities/ensure all students are securely seatedCompliance with Traffic Laws:Adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic regulations.Obey traffic signals, signs, and school zone speed limits, and always practice defensive driving techniques.Communication:Report any incidents, delays, or safety concerns to school transportation officials.Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administrators regarding any changes in schedules or routes.Documentation and Reporting:Maintain accurate records, including daily logs of routes, attendance, times, and any maintenance or safety issues with the bus.Report any accidents or incidents immediately, following school district procedures.Qualifications:Licensing and Certification:Valid driver's licenseClean driving recordObtain a DOT Medical CardExperience:
Previous experience driving large vehicles or in the transportation sector is preferred but not required.Skills:
Excellent driving skills and attention to detail.Working knowledge of first aid procedures.Experience working with children is preferred.Ability to handle stressful situations, especially when dealing with unruly students or traffic issues.Strong communication skills to interact with children, parents, and school staff.Physical Requirements:Ability to sit for extended periods while operating the bus.Capable of assisting students in emergencies, including evacuations.Working Conditions:This role requires early mornings and afternoon shifts, typically aligned with school hours.The driver may be exposed to various weather conditions while performing their duties.
