POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to transport students to and from school, home and activity destinations in a timely and safe manner. Emphasis will be on following regulations for safe operation and maintaining order among student passengers. Full job description available upon request.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalent.Criminal history clearance (background and HB 2062).Valid Oregon Driver's License or Commercial Driver's License, Oregon Department of Education School Bus Driver's Certificate, and evidence of insurability.Pass an Employment Drug & Alcohol Assessment, andPass a school bus driver physical.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic computer/Technology skills.Spanish speaking skillsPrevious school bus or passenger driving experienceSUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Drives buses and vans on regular routes, activity trips, and field trips in a variety of weather conditions.Monitors and guides student behavior, enforces school and safety rules, and maintains order among student passengers.Makes student referrals to supervisors, teachers and school administrators as needed.Performs daily vehicle checks, daily bus cleaning and fuels vehicles as needed.Operates accessories such as fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, tire chains, and first aid kits.Reads and follows maps and oral and written directions. On time for assignments and ready for work.Communicates regularly with office support, trainers, dispatch functions regarding assignments and schedules.Interacts regularly with routing team to maintain up-to-date and accurate route and student information.Makes mechanical and repair referrals, and provides information to mechanic as needed.Informs students of vehicle regulations, safety procedures, and conducts safety drills as required.Exercises sound judgment in varying weather conditions, on various surfaces and changing traffic conditions.Maintains concentration and patience in frequently noisy conditions and challenging, congested traffic environments.Completes and files reports and other required documents in an accurate and timely manner.Participates in district required meetings and training activities as required.Maintains the appropriate amount of classroom hours for a school bus certificate.Works well with others, communicating effectively (orally and in writing) with students, parents, and staff.Maintain concentration during frequent and prolonged talking/hearing conversations, reporting concerns as needed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Works a school year calendar, approximately 183 days at 0.75 FTE. Based on current OSEA salary
schedule and negotiated agreement, salary (code 10.5 - starting $22.96/hr. - $26.58/hr.) with excellent benefits including Medical,
Dental, and Vision insurance and Oregon state retirement. Paid time off includes one sick day per month worked and two personal days, pro-rated per school year. Starts as soon as possible. Benefit information can be found at www.seasidek12.or.us/hr/benefits. Open until filled.
