Job Description
BlueTriton is seeking a Senior Manager, Issues Management responsible for helping to protect and safeguard the reputation of BlueTriton Brands. The person in this role will partner with the Chief Communications Officer to oversee and lead on all issues and crisis management comms, including issues management strategy and execution, anticipatory, strategic business planning, identification, monitoring and analysis and building a strong defense against issues that may arise. Knowledge of sustainability is a plus given BlueTriton’s priority areas which are advancing water stewardship and replenishment, promoting circular packaging, addressing climate change, and empowering its people and the communities it serves.
Key responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
•Develop and produce issues management strategy – and implement across BlueTriton and its brands.
•Own crisis communication process and playbook; stay abreast of best practices and share knowledge and expertise with global counterparts.
•Project manage cross functional scenario planning and training among senior leadership and other key stakeholders working closely with CCO.
•Provide strategic counsel, guidance and leadership to key internal stakeholders around reputational risk and response strategies.
•Working with agency, manage and own issues analytics process; consistently track and gauge impact of communications initiatives and activities.
•Oversee cross-functional Issues roundtable in Stamford, Conn.
•Develop corporate positions and reactive statements on key issues.
•Provide communications in decisions relating to product and environmental issues.
•Lead cross functional team for scanning and stay up-to-date/inform on emerging issues on relevant topics in water stewardship, environmental sustainability, plastic use, recycling, etc.
•Act as key project lead and communications point on day-to-day matters, including recalls, litigation, vehicle accidents, activist campaigns, etc, working closely with CCO on escalations, as appropriate.
•Organize and facilitate media training for key company executives and other spokespersons as needed.
•Support content lead with digital/ social responses to crisis and issues, as required.
•Partner with broader team to inject crisis communications guardrails within larger, integrated communications, marketing, environmental strategies.
Qualifications
Key qualifications for this position include but are not limited to:
•8-10 years of experience in corporate communications/issues management preferably in consumer goods, and with experience working in a matrixed organization. Agency and/or political campaign experience is a plus.
•Experience in sustainability as well as key geographies for BlueTriton is a plus (California, Maine, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas, Michigan).
•Strong experience in issue identification and proactive management across sectors and audiences, including War Room leadership.
•Deep understanding of competitive landscape, stakeholder and media, and marketplace dynamics to inform drivers of reputational risk.
•Experience in working with media (business, trade and local), most notably investigative journalists; comfort in speaking with media.
•Capacity to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, including aptitude for triage.
•Experience working with legal counsel and teams; ability to collaborate with various departments and partners across the organization.
•Experience in litigation and labor relations communications.
•Expertise in facilitating scenario planning and communications training.
•Poise, confidence and a calm manner needed for sensitive and intricate situations; ability to hold your own amongst senior leaders.
•Aptitude to exercise good judgment in intricate and delicate situations.
•Effective teamwork and communication; attention to detail.
•Strong project management skills.
•College degree (BS or BA minimum); masters a plus.
