The client, who recently joined the ranks of elite park and recreation agencies across the country by earning accreditation through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), is seeking a responsible and energetic individual to serve as a team member of Summer Camp 2024.
Camp is scheduled to start June 3, 2024 and ending August 9, 2024.
This position requires the applicant to successfully pass a drug screening.

Skilled work in the operation of light and heavy school buses in transporting registered participants to and from summer camp field trips and other Summer Camp locations.
Essential Duties:
The following duties are illustrative for this position. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Participates in orientation training. Becomes familiar with and implements camp policies, procedures, and philosophy as stated in the Summer Camp Staff Manual and learns the role of the Summer Camp Bus Driver. Transports registered participants to and from field trips, following a preplanned route according to a definite time schedule. Regulates heating equipment and ventilation of bus for comfort of passengers. Drives bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations. Assumes responsibility for the safety of school children in loading, unloading and transporting them to and from Summer Camp field trips and Summer Camp locations. Instructs children in safety precautions and practices. Signals children when to cross street or highway and assures that children are safely across upon departure from bus. Maintains discipline; reports unruly behavior to Summer Camp director or to Special Events Coordinator.Inspects and sweeps bus. Checks water, gas, oil and mechanical condition before leaving on run. Reports delays and accidents. Keeps operational records and makes simple reports. Reports defects or problems with vehicle to shop supervisor. Assures bus meets regular maintenance schedules. Other duties may be required and assigned. Qualifications:

Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations, and of the precautions necessary to avoid accidents. Skills and Abilities to:
Ability to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner. Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to perform work requiring good physical condition. Ability to relate to Summer Camp staff members, City personnel, registered participants and school system personnel. Ability to complete various forms and records, including updated route sheets, time sheets, field trip forms, incident and accident reports, etc. Ability to serve as a positive role model for campers, including attitude, punctuality, treating others with respect, sportsmanship, etc. Ability to work as part of a team to ensure that all camper's needs are met in a fair and appropriate way. Ability to remain calm and act resourcefully in an emergency and in stressful situations. Education and Experience:
Must be employed by the Saint Lucie County School Board as a School Bus Driver. Graduation from high school or completion of GED. Completion of first aid and driving courses. Training on highway safety rules and regulations. Completion of a performance test in school bus operation. Must be able to work the entire camp session. Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:
State of Florida Driver's and DOT license. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
