Machine Learning Rust Software Engineer

The Zelis Data Intelligence (ZDI) Business Unit seeks a talented engineer, fluent in
Rust , with experience in Machine Learning related engineering. We are building and maintaining software using Rust to ingest, parse, process, and serve significant datasets, making use of SIMD, Apache Arrow, Apache Data Fusion, Polars, and similar technologies. Rust is also a core component to our ML operations and the ideal candidate has experience in the creation and/or understanding and/or the deployment of ML models and LLMs.We are stewards of complex and significant healthcare data sets, on a mission to boil the complexity to solve big problems. You will contribute to and be responsible for the development and maintenance of lots of microservices, that contribute to the overall system architecture. This requires discipline in writing readable, maintainable code, supported by testing where appropriate. We will prioritize individuals with experience in ML fundamentals and is interested in contributing to the development of an ML platform.We work closely together, wear lots of hats, operate with a high degree of autonomy, and treat others the way we'd like to be treated.In this position, you'll be responsible for:Deeply understanding common ML algorithms, the latest in GenAI, and ML engineering best practices
Writing easily maintainable, extendable, and understandable code that adheres to software engineering design principles
Optimizing code for efficiency, reducing unnecessary CPU and memory overhead and costs wherever possible
Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, and resilient software architecture to serve customer needs
Suggesting and making use of open-source software. Technologies we make use of: AWS, Unix, Docker, Snowflake, OpenTelemetry, Airflow

Preferred Experience5+ years backend engineer, with experience working on
ML applications , building scalable production applications, working with large data sets, solving technical problems, and owning the entire development lifecycle
Experience with Apache Arrow/Data Fusion/Polars
