Sep 16 2024 Eastern Daylight TimeApplications close:Job Summary:The University IT Services (UITS) Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA) team is responsible for developing and managing shared services in the area of data and analytics for the entire UMass university system. These include:Data services such as the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Lake, and related data integrationsReporting, visualizations, and analytics tools for self-service use of university personnelData analysis and development services for various business lines including development of interactive dashboards and analyticsThe Senior Data Engineer is a key contributor in the EDA team, providing expertise in modeling data structures and designing, building, and optimizing data mappings. They are experienced in multiple data management technologies and support data analytics and data scientists in answering complex data driven business questions.Essential Functions:Responsibilities and duties will include:Supporting data analysts’ needs for structured and transformed dataGathering and translating data requirements into technical specificationsDesign and development of data structures to meet reporting and analytics needsDesign, development, and optimization of data transformations and flows and their upkeepSolving complex data related problemsDeveloping cloud and on-premise data flowsContribution to management of data and analytics platforms and operations, including monitoring and performance analysisOther Functions:Additional responsibilities could also include (depending on individual’s experience and interest):Development of reports, visualizations, analytics and their delivery to end usersHelps with setting long term data and analytics objectives and goals for the enterpriseData analysis in a specific data subject area(s) – i.e. student, finance, HR, etc.Development of metadata layer for reporting toolsDevelopment of advanced analytics contentMinimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Computer Science, Statistics, or business-related field9+ years in business analysis or technical roles with the last 5 concentrating in data engineeringStrong understanding of SQL and/or PLSQL, and performance tuningSpecific experience developing data extracts, transformations, and loadsStrong communications skills both written and oralExperience with at least one Data Integration tool on the level of Dell Boomi, DataStage, or InformaticaSolid interpersonal skills, with ability to work well with people of all levels in both technical and business settingsPreferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):Dell Boomi experienceOBIEE, OAC, Tableau, R, Python or other reporting, visualization, and analytics tool experienceCloud data movement experience, experience with Data Lakes and related conceptsFinance, HR, Student Administration, or Advancement data experience in Higher EducationData Science trainingWorking Conditions:Typical office environment.Salary commensurate with experience up to $130,000.The University of Massachusetts is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action, Title IX employer.
