This position requires an excellent understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals with possibly a first experience in Automotive Engineering ideally in relation to Safety system development. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination.The Role:Participate in the design release of a steering wheel, airbags, and/or seat belts programs, that could relate to system specification development, sourcing, packaging, drawing release, design validation, manufacturing support, or post SOP maintenance.Under supervision of a Restraints DRE, the work interacts with the design studio and interior engineering teams to support the optimum restraint system packages for occupant protection performance and interior styling.Interact with Tier 1 suppliers for both engineering development and program timing.Participate in restraint system integration work contributing to the obtention of five-star safety ratings for our new vehicles. Work with CAE team to provide design inputs and utilize CAE results to optimize the component design.Participate in testing, from test parts management to testing preparation, execution, teardown, and reporting.Minimum Qualifications:Knowledge about the design and engineering of some automotive parts.Student Bachelor’s degree and above in Mechanical Engineering or other related fields.Deep understanding of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals: mechanics of materials, materials properties and engineering of materials, kinematics of solids, failure mechanics, and capacity to apply those fundamentals in problem solving.Knowledge about metal parts forming, plastic injection molding and associated design rules.Experience using GD&T and tolerance stack analysis (ASME or ISO).Some CAD skills to check the component models into vehicle models, the interfaces with the rest of the vehicle and make cross sections.Have strong ethics and diligence.Ability to make reporting, both oral and written.Program Information:Timing:
May- August, or June-September pending class schedules.Duration of Internship:
Our internship program is 12 weeks; the end date is flexible based on individual needs.Work Location & Environment:
This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. You must be prepared to start onsite for your first day of employment. The working environment will be a mix of lab & office work.Compensation:
Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable ranging from $35 to $48 (subject to changes).Relocation:
May be provided on a case-by-case basis.Housing/Transportation:
You must provide your own living arrangements and transportation in the local area.Background Check:
All offers of employment are contingent on clearing a background check.Drug Screening:
All offers of employment are contingent on passing a drug screen.Medical benefits:
