Site Team Lead, Engineering and Design

KBR is looking for a
Site Team Lead, Engineering and Design , to help support all phases of planning and execution on small/mid-sized projects at a local client site (Richmond, VA) as well as leading and being accountable for a mid-size engineering and design team.
This position is located at a client site in Richmond, VA.
Requires onsite attendance every day. Hybrid or Remote will not be considered at this time.
Functional Job Responsibilities
Demonstrates working safely and promotes safety to all team members in all activities and assignments.
Conducts work activities in a manner consistent with Client and KBR Core Values.
Leads 35+ person team of designers, engineers, project leaders, support staff and administrators.
Accountable for overall team performance, including safety, operability, quality, budget, and schedule.
Develop goals and objectives (goal setting) in alignment with client expectations. Execute company and client vision for the site design team and the minor project program.
Oversees execution of $20+ million minor project capital and non-capital spend. Prepares monthly report of site team costs and status of all spending accounts.
Manages production of deliverables for mechanical, process, piping, electrical and structural designs, project controls, procurement and document management.
Serves as single point of contact for Client to coordinate internal and external engineering resources with Site Engineering and business leaders.
Coordinates on a routine basis with KBR home office engineering and project controls disciplines in support of small and large capital projects.
Works with site engineering and client Manufacturing Technology personnel to identify non-cap alternatives or lower capital options, utilizing value improving practices.
Makes strategic team decisions and provides direction to department/discipline leads (direct reports). Maintains succession plan.
Ensures excellence in alignment to process safety management (PSM), environmental, health & safety (EH&S), mechanical integrity and quality assurance (MIQA), export controls and trade secrets principles, and other core value standards, processes and procedures.
Serves as lead project manager to ensure necessary engineering and design processes are followed throughout the project life cycle.
Participates in client project planning and monthly project reviews.
Collaborates with Client engineering, subject matter experts (SMEs), experienced contractor resources and construction management personnel.
Champions the “no change” concept and ensures only changes consistent with the business and project objectives are approved. Demonstrates excellent communication throughout project evolution.
Provides trustworthy leadership for an effective and cohesive team by ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly understood, team member workloads are reasonable, cross functional communications are adequate and personality conflicts managed for owners and contract team members. Engages outside consultants when needed to support the team.
Management of project execution to safely achieve business objectives within agreed to scope, cost and schedule while protecting the environment and our communities.
Accountable for the development and implementation of Project Quality Plans, including auditing work processes and deliverables for compliance, and for meeting agreed upon project quality requirements and expectations.
Performs routine project field audits to promote safe work practices and best-practice designs. Participates in weekly safety audits including design reviews, Process Safety Management (PSM), and Tie-In approval audits. Progresses assigned action items to completion.
Oversees execution of Site Safety Plan and monthly reporting of Safety Energy (leading indicators).
Coordinate recruiting, conducting interviews, evaluating, hiring and onboarding new talent into the Team. Provide opportunities to all reports for talent development and professional growth.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum ten (10) years of industrial experience
Strong interpersonal skills, communications, team skills & ability to collaborate.
Ability to lead multiple projects/tasks and drive projects to completion with strong operability to support reliable, high-quality production.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite required.
Familiarity with the FEL/Gate Review Process
Preferred Education & Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
Previous experience within Project Management within an industrial environment.
Previous experience with Microsoft Project, SAP, and/or other project management tools preferred.
Physical QualificationsWork is located at a chemical plant:
Requires exposure to ambient temperature extremes.
Extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces.
Some lifting may be required, up to 20lbs.
Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress).
Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, hearing and eye protection, steel-toed boots, etc.)
Day-to-day physical requirements involve standard office activities including sitting/standing for extended periods of time, attending meetings, use of keyboard and mouse repetitively.
