Job Purpose

The Senior Project Administrator is charged with incubating strategic initiatives that fuel a diverse, career-ready talent pipeline and/or 21st century economy for Detroit. Reporting to the Senior Director for Regional Competitiveness and Impact and housed within the Office of Economic Development, the Senior Project Administrator will work with executive and senior level leaders from across Wayne State University (WSU) including the Vice Presidents, Economic Development, Academic Affairs and Research and external partners to define and evaluate opportunities, develop proposals and plans, and drive progress on numerous concurrent and varied initiatives.

Essential Functions

Initiative Development and Execution:

Work collaboratively with WSU and external partners in the corporate, foundation, non-profit and economic development fields to define, plan, prototype and incubate new strategic economic development initiatives. Research best practices and conduct stakeholder interviews in order to develop plans, budgets, and funding proposals. Manage teams of internal partners to execute opportunities and prototype or incubate larger initiatives, successfully transitioning ownership of incubated initiatives to an identified WSU school, college, or division when appropriate.

Strategic and Tactical Planning:

Work with the Senior Director to staff strategic and tactical planning meetings of executive and senior level WSU leaders related to the economic development initiatives of the university. Assist in the development of agendas, create background and briefing materials, provide updates on strategic initiatives, etc.

Measuring and Communicating Impact:

Work with the Senior Director, Office of Economic Development and WSU Marketing and Data Management/Institutional Research teams to tell the story of this work and WSU’s economic impact more broadly including refining operational metrics for the team (e.g. initiatives vetted/incubated), defining initiative-specific metrics as part of the incubation process and informing the ongoing development of institutional metrics. Provide team/university success stories for internal and external publications, presentations, awards, etc.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Bachelor's degree from an accredited University in Business, Public Administration, Development, Marketing, Communication, Project Management, or related field. Master's Degree preferred.

Experience:Five or more years project management experience in a corporate, nonprofit, or economic development setting. Record of driving initiatives from conceptualization to implementation in a complex, multi-dimensional environment. Experience leading project teams of varying sizes and at least one direct report.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units to gain a full understanding of the project and desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent results with the assistance of team members; ability to provide support to teammates when tackling complex projects.

Planning and Organization: Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills required. Maturity, sound judgment and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.

Communications Skills: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. A high-level of curiosity to ask questions and innovate. Ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds.

Technical Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and Google apps. Knowledge of Canva or Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
