Merit Construction, Inc. is an award-winning Knoxville based General Construction firm, established in 1982. We currently have a full-time opening for a Project Engineer.The position requirements include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with all aspects of the management of the construction project.Work with the project team to prepare for the project start-up.Perform on-site quality control reviews and ensure adherence to project specifications.Monitor production and complete associated reporting.Organize and complete close-out activities, including the punch list, resolution of warranty issues, O & M manuals, and as-built drawings.Maintain submittal logs and ensure the timely receipt and review of submittals and shop drawings.Write, submit, and keep track of RFIs.Provide accurate information to complete various reports and compose original correspondence.Create bid invitation lists and communicate with sub-contractors to ensure adequate bid coverage.Attend project meetings as needed; take meeting notes, prepare and distribute meeting minutes.Complete bid forms.Update construction documents with addenda, RFIs, construction bulletins, etc.Complete cost information.Attend all Superintendent and Project Management Meetings.Order materials needed to successfully execute the project.Verify accurate payment of subcontractors and material suppliers.Develop, maintain, and revise the project schedule.Manage the relationship and work of assigned sub-contractors & suppliers.Perform constructability reviews and develop value engineering ideas.Demonstrate, communicate, and reinforce Company safety policies and procedures.Ensure that work is built to the most up-to-date drawings, specifications, addenda, and standards.Develop and maintain a clear understanding of the specifications, drawings, standards, and subcontractor & supplier scope of work.Interpret specifications, designs, and drawings; prepare quantity takeoffs.Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, estimates, etc.Verify work-in-place quantities for invoicing/pay quantities.Ensure craft time cards are completed accurately, reflecting hours worked and tasks worked on.Take weekly jobsite photographs and catalog them in an organized digital filing system.Work with the Safety Department to ensure adherence to project safety requirements and maintain accurate records.Prepare project status reports.Gather and prepare documentation for any potential disputes.Prepare information for change orders for Project Manager approval and submission to the appropriate party.Minimum Qualifications:Preferred Bachelor’s degree from an accredited construction or civil engineering program.Minimum Experience: 2 years of related experience.Strong computer skills including proficiency using Excel and Word; project management and scheduling software knowledge helpful.Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and office staff.Proficient use of required office equipment; effective planning and organization of work; analytical problem-solving skills.Merit Construction offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance, Paid Time Off, and paid holidays, as well as 401(k).
