Level 3 has a fairly sizeable content distribution network (CDN) – people who generate a lot of internet content. Microsoft, Apple, video providers. We have servers numbered in the tens of thousands. To support this, we can’t rely on our Ops teams and expect them to jump on each box individually. We rely heavily on automation – we do builds, repairs, and various tasks through our automation platform. This position focuses on the automation platform.The core of the application is written in Ruby. We are looking for someone with strong Ruby skills as well as experience with the Ruby on Rails framework to help build the front-end. This role aims to provide a simpler way of interacting with the system, leveraging the Rails framework.Additionally, a combination of networking and system administration experience is desirable. Networking knowledge is crucial, especially when deploying applications globally. Understanding how to develop applications that work in a WAN environment and how running jobs across diverse environments affects design is important.Our CDN is built on generic white box servers. Familiarity with the general build process, including loading applications onto servers, is helpful. In summary, we seek someone who knows Rails, can support the systems and front-ends of this application, has Ruby knowledge to assist with the core application, and possesses some knowledge of networking and system administration.Work Environment

Largely self-contained group in a start-up environment.Typical Day

Collaborating with other developers on the application, conducting demos, and working with stakeholders on externally facing projects.Location Preference

Strong preference for candidates who can work onsite in Broomfield.Qualifications

5+ years of Ruby on Rails (prefer v2.0+ experience) development including all layers (model, view, and controller); candidates should be able to work across architectural layers.Flex on RoR is a plus (although it is too early to determine if we will use Flex).Strong SQL skills (preferably on Oracle).Experience working with Unix; deploying RoR on Solaris 10 with Oracle is a significant plus.Prior experience developing with other object-oriented languages such as Java, C++, or C# is a plus. Familiarity with other web application frameworks such as J2EE, Hibernate, Spring, or .NET is also a plus.Comfortable working in an agile environment with monthly releases; must adapt well to changing requirements and be comfortable multitasking.BS/BA in computer software/software engineering disciplines.Additional Information
