About the Position:
National Grid Renewables is seeking an Operations Electrical Engineer with experience in supporting operational wind, solar and BESS generation facilities. Troubleshooting issues remotely (or locally if needed) and developing standard practices across facilities is a common part of this position. This will include providing front line support to site personnel in regards to SCADA, alarm management, substation physical components, protections and controls, switching procedures and development of maintenance programs. This opportunity may be remote.
What you will be doing:
Support unplanned outages by retrieving and analyzing relay event files to provide guidance to onsite operational teams and decrease return to service time frames.Troubleshooting and diagnostic testing of devices and systems to resolve alarms and faults.Partner with SMEs and cross-functional teams, as needed, to get equipment back in service in a timely manner.Develop and maintain field equipment reliability procedures.Communicate regularly with manager, asset manager and plant personnel to ensure satisfaction of internal/external customer requirements.Participate in or lead business unit improvement initiatives.Provide oversight of external professionals & equipment OEMs at a technical level ensuring their work falls in line with company procedures and expectations.Ensure all relevant internal controls are followed and develop new controls as needed.Perform root cause analysis and present findings to cross-functional teams, including management.Assist team with NERC compliance requirements as determined.What you bring to this role:
Bachelor's Degree in a specific Electrical engineering discipline or equivalent.3+ years of experience with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting; specifically for power systemsAnalytical minded; Detail-oriented; Well-organized; multi-taskerBase level knowledge of communication systems commonly used within the power generation industry for the purpose of configuring and troubleshooting SEL relays/RTAC, network devices, substation equipment, and other OEM devices.Ability to identify potential issues and react resourcefully with a team to rectify.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and problem-solving skills.Ability to understand technical documentation related to renewable energy projects such as local codes and regulations, civil and electrical drawings, or other specifications.Proficiency using personal computer tools such as SEL tools, MS Office, Word, Excel, Power Point, data analytic systems, and other database managements systems.Ability & Willingness to be on call nights/weekends/holidays on a rotating schedule.Ability & Willingness to travel and assist plants with technical support/troubleshooting. Travel expectations will vary depending on operational needs.Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
More than 5 years of relevant experience in RenewablesAdvanced degrees in Electrical or Electronics EngineeringExperience with design/maintenance of SCADA systemExperience on Substation physical componentsExperience with Substation Protection and Control.
