Position Summary:
HunaTek requires a Washington, DC based full-time Senior Strategic Communications Advisor who will develop content, storytelling, and other communications in support of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Office of Global Material Security, Office of Radiological Security.
ORS works in the United States and across the globe in more than 80 countries to protect radioactive sources used for medical, research, and commercial purposes; remove and dispose of radioactive sources no longer in use; and reduce the global reliance on high activity radioactive sources through the promotion of viable alternative technologies. ORS partners with a broad range of stakeholders including representatives from industry; foreign governments; state and local governments and first responders; international organizations; non-government organizations; and industry associations to achieve its work. ORS conducts a broad range of outreach activities with these stakeholders to promote awareness about its offerings and build support for its mission and strategies.
This Senior Strategic Communications Advisor will provide support on a full-time basis in communications and outreach planning; brand strategy and visual concept development for various product types; and building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
Essential Job Functions:
The Senior Strategic Communications Advisor is expected to report to the customer site near the Smithsonian Metro Stop in Washington, DC up to three (3) days a week to interface with ORS federal staff to support program activities. Specific responsibilities include:Assisting customer in executing and evaluating their overall communications strategy and maintaining of communications guidelines.Presenting and cultivating content and narrative concepts and ideas.Identifying strategic opportunities to engage with current events and key moments to highlight ORS, particularly within the context of global development, including global health, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and climate change.Preparing for reputation management and crisis communications.Finding opportunities to showcase ORS through various platforms including events, fact sheets, and social media.Mentoring colleagues to cultivate a collaborative team environment.Skills and Qualifications Required :
The successful candidate must have:9+ years experience in a strategic communications role developing communications content and stories, managing crisis communications and reputational risk, and understanding when and how to plug into a broader narrative to garner the most traction and return on investment on behalf of an organization.Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or other related fields.Demonstrated experience assisting customers on communications programming, implementation, and evaluations.Excellent interpersonal skills in the workplace with demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, prioritize, and respond effectively to short deadlines.Willingness to take initiative, accept ownership of job responsibilities, and make appropriate decisions.Outstanding oral communication and presentation skills with ability to synthesize information and write concise summaries and reports.Ability to quickly learn the customer's business operations and maintain a current understanding of ongoing and planned changes or impacts to their business operations.Ability to travel domestically and internationallya DOE Q or the ability to acquire Q clearance.
