FINANCIAL OFFICER (PRE-AWARD) , Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) , to perform comprehensive pre- and post-award financial research management of CSAIL's sponsored activities. Will advise principal investigators (PIs) and project leaders on all aspects of pre-award research administration and implement their decisions; coordinate the preparation, review, and submission of government/industrial/foundation/other organizational proposals; and ensure compliance with agency program announcement requirements and MIT's policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

R EQUIRED : B.A./B.S.; five years' grants management experience in a nonprofit research administrative function (including with federal contracts, administrative rules, cost principals and regulations under OMB guidelines; pre-award research administration/sponsored programs; budgeting, requirements, and procedures related to federal/state/other related grants; cost accounting; government accounting and auditing; grants, contracts, and applications; electronic research administration requirements from a variety of sponsoring agencies; portals such as Grants.gov, Research.gov, and SciENcv; budget preparation and administration; financial recordkeeping; and reporting, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of contractual terminology); experience with financial management/forecasting and interpreting financial data; discretion with confidential information; strong interpersonal, customer service, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail; proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and internet search tools; knowledge of enterprise financial systems, proposal application/submission and grants management tools, and multidimensional databases; and comfort learning new procedures/systems. Must be able to multitask, prioritize, manage numerous complex proposals, and meet strict deadlines in a fast-changing environment; cultivate the trust of constituents; create, improve, and streamline complex work processes as part of a team; and make independent judgments. PREFERRED : pre-award administration experience in a university/hospital/nonprofit; experience working with federal sponsors, including NSF, DoD, and NIH; and knowledge of general accounting principles.
