Job Summary/Description:
KSWO is looking for a dynamic professional to anchor our morning weekday newscasts. This is a great opportunity for a seasoned journalist to move into a leadership role at the number one station in Texoma. We want someone who will lead by example in the newsroom. We want someone who wants to build relationships in the community, get involved with organizations, and emcee events, and represent the station in a positive manner on and off camera.
The successful candidate should be an energetic "morning person." We need someone who can solo-anchor when necessary for two hours. The morning anchor will also be involved in the day-to-day operations of the newsroom and be a mentor to staff members.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Be able to anchor at least two hours of news a day throughout your shift- Research, gather, shoot, write, edit, and report news stories on-air and online in the most accurate, appealing, timely, and creative way using all sources. Be able to do regular franchise or special reports as assigned by the news director- Be able to write in a clear, concise, conversational manner and must read through scripts thoroughly before going on air- Possess excellent interview and conversational writing/presentation skills- Report "live" on the scene, especially during breaking news or weather- Develop and maintain sources of information and knowledge about assignments- Demonstrate sound news judgment, and collaborate with others to present the story in the best way possible.- Mentor other staff members (will be assigned one MMJ)- Enterprise hard-news, research-driven packages under tight deadlines- Attend/host/speak at community service, schools, and community events regularly (several times a month); meet and greet viewers- Post and regularly update stories and other material on the web and social media per station requirements. Interaction with viewers on social media is a must, including the ability to do Facebook lives regularly- Communicate with the web staff and other appropriate staff members during breaking news- Follow clothing and appearance guidelines set by the news director- Must be a visual storyteller; perform creative stand-ups and explanatory, moving live shots when needed.- Be willing to learn or possess a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, things, and history- Critique, feedback, and training are part of the job- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Must have at least three years of experience in reporting- Bachelor degree in journalism or related field is preferred- Working with ENPS and Edius is a plus
