Rail Vehicle Electrical Engineer

STV currently has an opening for an Electrical / Computer / Software Engineer in our Rail Vehicles division at our New York City, NY office. This role is ideal for individuals with a minimum of 5 years of experience in rail vehicle system engineering. The position offers a chance to work on diverse rail vehicle projects, including light rail/streetcar, heavy rail/subway, regional/commuter rail, and high-speed rail vehicles across North America. The successful candidate will provide technical advice and support in the technical aspects of specifying, designing, constructing, overhauling, maintaining, and retrofitting various rail vehicle platforms.
Responsibilities:
Conduct in-depth analysis and evaluation of systems, subsystems, components, and vehicles including light rail/streetcar, heavy rail/subway, regional/commuter rail, long-distance, and high-speed rail vehicles.Develop technical specifications for procurement, overhaul, and retrofit of passenger rail vehicles and their associated systems.Review and assess design submittals for compliance to agency technical specifications and regulatory requirements.Evaluate manufacturing and design methods, verifying adherence to best practices and standards.Collaborate with functional peer groups within clients, carbuilders, system sub-suppliers, and industry organizations to provide expert technical advice and support.Support proposal efforts by providing relevant technical knowledge and expertise.Prepare clear and concise reports to document findings and recommendations.Participate in first article inspections and qualification tests.Qualifications:
Proven expertise in rail rolling-stock on-board network-based communications, monitoring & diagnostics systems, and digital train line systems.Candidates with knowledge of and experience with on-board passenger information systems are preferred.General understanding of on-board train subsystems including braking, propulsion, passenger doors, HVAC, auxiliary power, ATC/ATP/CBTC and their integration with onboard and wayside diagnostics systems is advantageous.Knowledge of the regulatory environment impacting passenger rail procurement and construction in North America, including FRA, FTA, ADA, TSA, and state Public Utilities Commissions is advantageous.Familiarity with software development processes and procedures.Experience with on-board and wayside components required for train to wayside communications.Ability to communicate effectively with various multidisciplinary teams within STV and client organizations.Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time for intermittent short periods.Opportunities for relocation or home-based employment are available.Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent rail vehicle engineering experience.Minimum of 5 years of experience in rail rolling-stock vehicle systems or a related field (passenger/commercial vehicles, marine, defense, aerospace systems).An Engineer In Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred, or the ability and willingness to obtain one.We welcome experienced Engineers who have a strong interest in transitioning to the rail industry.
Compensation Range:$78,005.00 - $104,007.00
