Under the direction of the department leadership, executes quality control testing strategies on Versiti's blood supply to ensure regulatory requirements are met and manufactures platelet products according to operational standards. Enhances existing procedures and services with quality that exceeds customer expectations. Demonstrates the ability to take initiative, drive productivity, and build a collaborative environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES
Understands and performs laboratory activities to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirementsPerforms and evaluates quality control testing on blood products using hematology analyzers, pH meters, and WBC counting technologiesPerforms blood product manufacturing on RBCs and PLTsMaintains equipment by performing daily quality control and preventative maintenancePerforms testing on proficiency testing for CAP surveysLabels blood products according to regulatory requirementsAccessions and packs blood donor sample tubes for infectious disease testing where applicablePerforms reconciliations, lot release and client sample release of infectious disease testingPerforms pathogen reduction production process on blood products, as applicablePerforms donor antigen testing and antibody titrations, as applicableConducts validation procedures to qualify new production processesAssists in annual revisions of proceduresSupports trainers by coordinating and maintaining staff training and competenciesMaintains competencies in required tasks in Core Production and/or Hospital ServicesMaintains equipment reagent inventory levels for daily laboratory operationsDelegates, monitors and motivates team membersWorks in partnership with Leads and Supervisor to improve communication between management and employeesWorks weekend, holiday rotations and on-call, as neededOther duties, as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelors degree in biology or related science preferredAssociates degree in a chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory technology or other experience may be accepted by management
Experience
1+ year of related work experience in a health care setting is preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical demands:
Daily tasks include a mixture of standing, sitting, and walking. Hand-eye coordination with significant manual dexterity and frequent repetitive hand motions. Reaching above the head and lifting up to 40-pound items occurs occasionally. Visual and hearing acuity to perform essential responsibilities. Looking at computer screens or small items is common.Mental demands : Requires ability to maintain a routine of intense concentration for long periods, as well as excellent cognitive, analytical, and memory ability.
Environmental hazards : Work with biohazardous material is completed in a laboratory environment wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following internal policies, training, and OSHA standards. Moderate level of noise is present in the laboratory. May perform tasks within cold room for short periods of time.
