The Dentist Anesthesiologist, with the Pediatric Dentistry Program Director, participates in the operation of the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program through oversight and training of residents and in the delivery of pediatric dental services in the out-patient clinics, hospital in-patient care, and operating room treatment; by providing direct patient care; and by coordinating and providing lectures, seminars, and clinical demonstrations to residents.

1. Assists Program Director in successful oversight of the pediatric dental residency program1.1 Assists the program director in establishing the pediatric dental resident schedules (didactics and lectures, clinical patient care, operating rooms, on-call and rotations) in collaboration with other directors and other teaching programs cooperating with Y-NHH dental service2. Participates in the operational success of the department through patient care, regulatory compliance, and other administrative responsibilities.2.1 Personally sees patients up to 40% of scheduled hours/week in the Pediatric Dental Center, OR, and other satellite facilities, in coordination with program director.3. Assists Program Director in establishing a comprehensive pediatric and adult special needs dental sedation program. This program will include oral and IV sedations of patients that are undergoing dental care with residents. Provider will be responsible for providing oral and/or intravenous sedation for pediatric and adult patients.4. Participate in a comprehensive sedation course for residents including conscious sedation, emergency management and pharmacology.5. Actively participates in teaching dental residents to manage airways and to manage dental emergencies in the office.6. Actively involved in research projects with dental residents that involve critical thinking skills and result in publications.7. Actively involved in Dental Grand Rounds as both a presenter and coordinator.8. Provides training of dental staff in emergency preparedness and emergency management.9. Involved in complex decision making regarding the case selection for the sedation program.10. Organizes and coordinates the sedation simulation laboratory course for dental residents
Qualifications
EDUCATIOND.M.D./D.D.S. or equivalent professional degree.EXPERIENCEDental Anesthesia Residency training with experience including intravenous and general anesthesia performed in pediatric patients as staff in a hospital or dental school program.LICENSURED.M.D./D.D.S. or equivalent professional degree. DMD/DDS or equivalent degree. Must have completed an accredited post-doctoral training in Dental Anesthesia. Must have one or both Dental Anesthesia Board certifications: National Board of Dental Anesthesia or American Board of Dental Anesthesia or be able to complete within one year of hire. Must have experience managing airway for pediatric patientsSPECIAL SKILLSExcellent communications, interpersonal, coordinative, problem solving, and organizational skills.
