This role will be located at our Knoxville, Tennessee facility.Role Overview: We are seeking an Additive Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in revolutionizing how critical parts are designed and manufactured for the aerospace, defense, and energy industries. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing additive manufacturing processes, designing for printability, and troubleshooting printing issues. You will collaborate with customers, designers, and engineers to ensure successful production of complex parts.Duties and Responsibilities: Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Design for metal AM technologies, industry best practices, and best software solutions to support our customers Design for AM activities. Responsible for Design for AM process development, documentation, qualification, implementation, and continuous improvement to enhance quality and yield, reduce cost, and improve productivity. Support and lead AM manufacturing simulation and build pre-compensation solution exploration, assessment, and documentation. Support and drive design engineering's learning and lead the implementation of the training as well as supporting engineering and manufacturing guideline documentation. Support manufacturing needs in generation of specialized support structures especially related to metal L-PBF. Support AM Manufacturing Engineers to implement lean manufacturing process improvement projects. Interact with customers to ensure full intent of AM projects are met. Basic Qualifications and Requirements: A strong fundamental background in mechanical engineering design and the application of L-BPF metal Additive processes. Understanding of complex mechanical assemblies and products especially in Aerospace, and Defense industries. Working CAD and FEA knowledge using software such as NX, Solidworks, Creo, Fusion 360, and Ansys. Knowledge of thermal distortion, residual stress analysis, and support structure design. Working experience with build-prep software including but not limited to Magics, Eosprint, AM-Studio, etc. Strong interpersonal skills and stakeholder management and ability to communicate effectively with cross-departmental teams of staff and executives. Knowledge and experience deigning parts for leading AM L-PBF machines such as Concept Laser, EOS, SLM Solutions, etc. Desired Qualifications: Served for 5+ years as AM Design Engineer positions with focus on Additive Manufacturing in Aerospace and Defense industries. Experience operating LPBF machines. X-Line 2000, EOS M400, SLM 280, etc.Knowledge and working experience with AM design software such as NetFabb, nTop, etc. Prior experience and successes applying generative design principles for light-weighting, heat exchangers, topology optimization, lattice design structures etc. Detailed Knowledge of machine operation, set up, tear down, "dead-zones", and other issues on machines spanning multiple vendors. Hands on and able to operate machines in order to ensure completion of experimental and test builds. Educational background, work experience and personal attributes: Minimum degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Sciences, or close disciplines with emphasis in design for Additive Manufacturing and +5 years of work experience. Ability to work with professionals at all levels and to communicate with others effectively. Ability to execute responsibilities independently, with minimal day-to-day oversight. Exceptional written and oral communication skills to include report writing, requirements derivation, and documentation, as well as design review presentations. Strong workload management and follow-up skills. Good oral and written communication skills. Capable of performing duties with limited supervision. Strong interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels within and outside of Beehive Industries in a professional manner. Ability to work in a team environment. Willingness to travel as required.Working extended hours during machine outages or mission critical activities Previous start-up experience beneficial.
