Job DescriptionResponsible for managing the Firm's daily operational functions including:
Finance/Accounting, Human Resources, Firm Governance, Insurance, Marketing/Business Development.
Reporting directly to the Managing Partner, the COO serves on the Executive Committee and plays a key role in strategic leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee month-end financial closures and prepare annual budgets.
Develop and implement financial controls and guidelines to optimize profitability.
Collaborate with the Controller to enhance financial processes and monitor performance metrics.
Manage tax planning and contribute to semi-annual "State of the Firm" updates.
Partner with HR to recruit, train, and evaluate administrative staff.
Support functional managers in staff management, including performance evaluations and recruitment strategies.
Maintain and optimize the Firm's facilities and IT systems, including disaster recovery planning.
Manage leases and oversee contract reviews to ensure compliance and best practices.
Review and manage the Firm's insurance policies.
Work with the Marketing Manager to develop and monitor marketing strategies and initiatives.
Collaborate with the Managing Partner to set agendas for meetings and ensure implementation of decisions made by the Shareholders.
Drive strategic planning to position the Firm for future success and maintain a high-quality work environment.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Law, Finance, or a related field required; MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
Significant experience in a management role within a law firm or professional services environment.
Strong business acumen with a deep understanding of law firm operations and financial management.
Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
Proficiency in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.Experience in HR management, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and compliance with employment laws.
The COO should embody a proactive leadership style, focused on enhancing operational efficiency and supporting the Firm's growth objectives.
