Job FunctionThe Provost at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design (RMCAD) drives academic excellence by leading all academic programs, departments, and units. This role ensures strategic alignment with the institution's goals, advises the President on academic affairs, and oversees the implementation of strategic plans and key performance indicators. Key responsibilities include enhancing student retention, persistence, graduation, and placement rates through cross-departmental collaboration.
The Provost ensures compliance with academic policies, accreditation standards, and the accurate maintenance of the RMCAD Catalog. Leading faculty hiring, credentialing, and professional development to foster high-quality instruction and curriculum is essential, as is conducting regular program reviews and assessments to maintain curricular quality and relevance. Managing annual budgets for academic departments and approving expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility is also a critical duty. Additionally, the Provost oversees academic support services, including class scheduling, facilities planning, and catalog production.
The Provost supports student and faculty concerns, ensures continuous improvement through End-of-Course Surveys, and collaborates with the Department of Institutional Research to enhance institutional performance. This role is pivotal in achieving measurable academic outcomes and maintaining the highest standards of educational excellence at RMCAD. When the job is done correctly, the Provost at RMCAD will have established a robust academic framework that supports the institution's strategic goals, fosters an environment of continuous improvement, and ensures compliance with accrediting standards. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesServe as the Senior Executive for Academic Affairs providing leadership for all academic programs, departments, and unitsAdvise the President on all matters related to Academic AffairsCoordinate and provide academic leadership to the President for the development and implementation of the Strategic Planning processProvide oversight to the development and implementation of Departmental Objectives + KeyPerformance Indicators (KPI) and ensure that these responsibilities are met and revisited during Semester Review Meetings (SRMs)Provide quarterly reports to the Board of Directors and serve as the Chairperson for the Board of Directors' Academic Affairs SubcommitteeProvide leadership in matters of academic policy and administration and regularly advise the President on these mattersProvide oversight of the generation, review, publication, and administration of the RMCAD Catalog; ensure campus-wide complianceWork cross-departmentally to impact practices for continuous improvement in student retention, persistence, graduation, and placement ratesConduct annual budget planning, development, implementation, and oversight for the following budgets: Academic Affairs, Faculty Affairs, Instructional Costs, Instructional Design, and Program Departments Review and approve academic departmental expendituresProvide support to the student formal complaint process, faculty investigations, and new student orientationsEnsure that the End-of-Course Surveys are conducted on a term basis, and review and identify action items and initiatives for continuous improvement in instruction and curriculum.Ensure action items and initiatives are carried out through SRMs or addressed through management and the Human Resources DepartmentCollaborate with the Department of Institutional Research for the College providing for continued institutional improvementPromote quality and shared faculty governance through the initiation, generation, review, and implementation of committee chartersProvide oversight to the Dean of Academics + Program Department Chairs + Heads to: Facilitate appropriate program development and curriculum for all learning modalitiesConduct regular, systematic review of programs to ensure instructional and curricular quality and current course contentApprove faculty hiring, credentialing, training, mentoring/coaching/training, evaluations, and disciplinary actionEnsure faculty preparedness and professional development and growth Ensure term prep setupEnsure compliance with required departmental activities, which result in measurable goals; these include: all faculty meetings, term departmental student and faculty meetings, annual curricular summits, quarterly review meetings (QRMs), and program advisory boardsProvide oversight and approval to the annual Professional Development Plan (PDP) processProvide oversight and approval to the semester Faculty Professional Development GrantsReview and approve the assigning of courses, course releases, and non-instructional assignments to full and part-time facultyProvide oversight to the Director of Academic Support Services and coordinate in the effective and efficient use of and planning for: Generating the academic annual timeline Composing, reviewing, and producing the annual RMCAD CatalogClassroom facilities planning, improvement (in coordination with Program Department Chairs (Operations and Facilities)Preparation of the annual, semester, and term class scheduleGeneration of the annual scheduleParticipating in course scrubs and approving the final class schedule including student registration numbersProviding oversight for the annual program and schedule build Providing oversight for term prep setupProvide oversight and planning for Curriculum Development initiatives, including: new program development research, writing, SME/Chair/Lead Faculty hiring, for accreditors, new program builds, and implementationProvide oversight to curricular revisions submitted to the Curriculum CommitteeEnsure all curricular initiatives meet accreditation + compliance requirementsProvide oversight and planning for Program Review and Assessment Activities including: regular (term) course-level assessment, regular (term) co-curricular assessment, annual program review activities, four-year comprehensive program review, and programmatic competitive analysesResponsible for evaluating and assessing the learning outcomes for Online LearningProvide oversight to the Instructional Design processProvide oversight for the Faculty Certification course including teacher assignments, instructor enrollment, and the conferring of certificate and provides direction for the skill development of online faculty to use instructional technology and software.Manage the online annual course planning process in collaboration with Student Services, Department Chairs, and the Curriculum Committee.Collaborate with IT to recommend and evaluate technologies relevant to online learning Accreditation + ComplianceCoordinate oversight with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness + the Office of Compliance to: coordinate with the accreditation efforts to: Prepare and compose reports to various accrediting agencies including comprehensive evaluation reports, substantive change initiatives, and policy initiatives and reports: Ensure annual compliance and alignment with accrediting standards (HLC, NASAD, CIDA, CDE/CDHE) through annual program review initiatives, assessment activities, and curricula initiativesServe as the Academic Affairs representative for Title IX in the Conduct Review Board, Sanctions, and Appeals ProcessesQualifications
