SUMMARY
Drives bus to transport students over specified routes according to time schedule. Complies with traffic regulations. This job description is not intended, nor should it be construed, to be a list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions associated with the job. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assignedDrives a school bus safely and professionally.Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip inspections.Complies with all traffic ordinances.Complies with discipline polices set forth in the School Code of Conduct for Transportation.Participates in training (some training off site).Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering school bus.Has general knowledge of first aid.Maintains daily cleanliness of assigned bus.Fuels bus to ensure that all assigned runs can be made without interruption.Reports all disciplinary problems promptly to Transportation DirectorAttends required School Bus Driver training.Reports all accidents involving bus to Transportation Director as soon as communication can safely be established.Monitors the 2-way radio at all times and respond to all calls in prompt courteous business like manner.Displays loyalty to District No. 53, the School Board and its governance, policies and contracts.Supports the Mission and Vision of the District.Maintains a professional appearance.Maintains a professional and positive rapport with parents/co-workers/administration/School Board.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises students while transporting them.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED). Must have no points on driving record and able to pass physical including drug test.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMust be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License. Must pass State Skill Test and State Written Test. Illinois drivers license for 3 years.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognized similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIESAbility to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee frequently repeats the same hand, arm or finger motion many times. The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp tools. And is continuously driving on the job. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds such as students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision.
