Bethune-Cookman University is seeking a solutions-oriented, strategic thinker to serve as Executive Director for Alumni Affairs and Development (EDAD). This is an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced and successful advancement professional to join a high-performing team. Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement, the EDAD will work in close concert with strategic partners across the university and beyond - including the university's colleges and schools, and its athletics department. The EDAD will lead B-CU's undergraduate and graduate alumni in support of the university's considerable objectives and in building a strong and supportive community among the university's external constituents.
The EDAD will manage the day-to-day operations of a growing team. He or she will collaborate internally to set priorities; devise and execute strategies for meeting University-wide objectives; ensure that the management team is effective in maximizing resources to mobilize a talented staff in engaging loyal alumni, parents, and friends; and balance ambitious goal setting and processes within an operation that supports group achievement and individual development. The EDAD should be data-driven, understanding the deliverables expected by alumni and university stakeholders alike. The position requires an excellent and inspiring leader, and a strategic, creative, and collaborative colleague who will also provide strategic direction to the Annual Giving fundraising programs. High energy, outgoing personality, positive attitude, and determination are required.
Duties/Responsibilities:Establish and build relationships with a wide range of alumni, locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.Ability to plan and execute large and small events including Homecoming, reunions, annual day of giving, select regional alumni events, and multiple activities outside of regular college hours.Ability to work effectively and independently with a team, and with volunteers and donors at all giving levels.Manage the University's Board of Visitors, and National and International Alumni Chapters.Create and maintain the policies and procedure manual for the Alumni Affairs Office.Manage a portfolio of annual fund, reunion class, planned gift, and other giving prospects.Work closely with Marketing & Communications Director to provide guidance and content for strategic alumni communications plan including on-line publications, website, direct mailings, and social media content.Required Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to strategize, implement and build constituency programs and activities.Strong organizational skills with consistent follow-through.High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information.Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.Minimum of 10 to 15 years in alumni affairs and higher education/nonprofit fundraising preferred.A record of leadership and service that demonstrates integrity, accountability, and ability to achieve high goals and a high commitment to the educational mission of HBCUs.Preferred Skills, Experience and Education:
Master's, or Ph.D. preferred.Physical Requirements:
Working environment is a normal face-to-face business office settingMask-wearing is required.Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Normal manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.Must be mobile throughout the campus.Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.Typically, the incumbent may sit comfortably to do the work.
