Summary:

The Lead Physical Therapist shall be responsible for providing a full range of physical therapy services including assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with the position's qualifications, professional practices and ethical standards. The Lead Physical Therapist shall also demonstrate accountability for and contribute to program development, quality improvement, and problem solving and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion. The Lead Physical Therapist coordinates, delegates and supervises responsibilities assigned to Physical Therapists and supportive staff (PTA, therapy technicians, front office staff). Provides input in formulating budget, assists in evaluating department performance versus budget controls and takes appropriate action to remain in budget guidelines. Ensures that all Physical Therapy documentation and coding is accurate and entered on a timely basis. Participates in all infection control, department equipment training, regulatory compliance training, organizational safety and fire programs.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of accredited school of Physical Therapy requiredDoctorate level degree preferredCurrent and active Physical Therapist License with the State of Texas requiredCPR Certification is requiredOutpatient Orthopedic Physical Therapy experience preferredAbility to read, write and speak EnglishAbility to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of rehabilitation, administration and physiciansResponsibilities:

Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practiceResponsible for the supervision of Physical Therapy staff, including Physical Therapist Assistants and Aides.Conduct initial assessment. Choose appropriate assessment tools, adaptive equipment and material used in the assessment based on the age and developmental level of the patient.Patient assessment is completed and in the medical record as outlined in policy & procedure. Data is recorded in the appropriate areas.Develop individualized treatment plans. Short and long term goals are written objectively and are measurable and updated weekly.Time frame for goal achievement is documented.Interventions are selected/documented based on assessment results and are appropriate for age, cognitive abilities and/or development level of the patient.Interventions are selected/documented and applied to support the transdisciplinary rehabilitation plan as evidenced by goal achievement.Consults with patient's physician regarding referrals for other services as needed.Patient response to the treatment plan is evaluated as evidenced by patient achievement of goals and/or goal revision, the treatment plan is updated as needed and/or on a weekly basis.Information is provided to patient/family regarding current status, program planning and discharge plans throughout the rehabilitation program.Daily progress notes and discharge summaries are completed according to policy & procedure.Integrates family members into the treatment, educational and discharge planning process for a safe transition home, and to ensure continued care needs are met.Participates in clinical staffing and provides/seeks input to/from others on patient care.Function as a resource for and provide team members with in-service/cross-training on physical therapy knowledge and skill areas.Participate in quality management activities. Attend meetings and uses reports/data to improve quality of care delivered. Submits data as requested.Participate in continuing education/professional development activities. Attends external professional growth activities as scheduled and communicates information to the team.Assist with the development of student programs as requested. Students are provided education coordinator/instruction as needed.Attends and participates in community education/promotional activities as requested.Maintain competency, licenses/ certifications, and memberships in applicable professional organizations.The competency/skills assessment is satisfactorily completed annually.Other duties as assigned per Executive Director.Other information:

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

:

Three (3) to five (5) years' experience in Orthopedic Physical Therapy is strongly preferred.Requires strong communication and organizational skills.Requires reasoning ability, critical thinking skills, and good independent judgment.Must present a professional image.Requires working with frequent interruptions.

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to his or her age.
