Summary This position will be located within the Rehabilitation Services Branch of the Gallup Indian Medical Center and Tohatchi Health Care Center. Services are provided to neonate/pediatric through geriatric age groups in an inpatient and outpatient clinic setting. The Rehabilitation Services Branch sees approximately 8,000 patients annually. The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct occupational therapy evaluation and treatment, education, and consultation for inpatients and outpatients (regular workweek) of all ages with a variety of conditions to improve the health and well-being of patients through the prevention and treatment of disease, disability and injury. Plans, organizes, and manages the occupational therapy program including responsibilities for policies and procedures, quality assurance, risk management, and infection control, strategic planning, ongoing preparation for the Joint Commission, etc. Develops and directs a comprehensive occupational therapy program that addresses care and treatment of all diagnosis and all age levels. Provides occupational therapy consultation, evaluation and treatment to in and out patients. Address evaluation and treatment of the upper extremity including expanded functional exercise programs, assistive technology, orthotic and prosthetic training and management. Addresses pain control, restoration of function and meaningful activity, daily living skills, mobility issues, fitness and strength, balance and coordination, cognitive function, adaptive equipment, etc. POSITION IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED - the vacancy will close when a selection is made. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree that included: An occupational therapy curriculum approved by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained; and Completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school. NOTE: Applicants who have completed an approved graduate level curriculum and who subsequently completed additional graduate training in a specialized field of clinical practice designed to assure professional competence to practice in the specialty meet the requirement for GS-11. Certification: For all grade levels, applicants must have passed the national examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-11: 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or, Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Program planning, monitoring, and adhering to established Occupational Therapy Performance. Provide Occupational Therapy consultation, evaluation and treatment for inpatient and outpatient clinics. Customize treatment programs to improve one's ability to perform daily activities, job site evaluations, recommendations, performance skills assessment, etc. Promote prevention of injury and/or disease.
