Custodian (Full Time)

Position Summary: The School Custodian is responsible for maintaining designated areas as directed by his/her Supervisor. Work hours are Monday through Friday and can be flexible.
REQUIREMENTS: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience in housekeeping, cleaning or janitor services recommended. 2. Must be able to read and write English, do simple arithmetic, and follow oral and written instructions. 3. Must have the capacity to grasp and adjust to new and changing situations. 4. Must be able to adjust hours to job requirements; hours may include evenings and weekends. 5. Must be able to work independently and have exceptional cleaning skills. 6. Must have driver’s license and acceptable driving record. 7. Must be eligible for PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse History clearance, FBI clearance, and Act 24 Conviction form. 8. Must be able to identify with the agency Mission Statement and support the agency’s Core Values.
Physical Requirements: 1. Manual dexterity and ability to work under pressure. 2. Must be able to lift at least 35 lbs. 3. Must be capable of standing on feet for 7-8 hours at a time. 4. Must be able to operate a vehicle and janitorial equipment.
CORE COMPETENCIES: 1. Maintains a clean school environment
Floors/stairs: Vacuum all carpeted areas. Sweep, wet mop and wax all hard surface areas.
Walls: Wash all fingerprints, dirt and grime from surfaces.
Doors/Door Frames/Trim: Remove dust from baseboards. Wash grime from surfaces and clean/polish glass areas.
Windows: Wash/polish glass and sills. Vacuum blinds and draperies. Arrange drapery cleaning as needed.
Lights: Dust and clean debris from lights as needed.
Office/School Furniture: Dust and polish desktops and sides. Dust and/or damp cloth clean or polish computers, file cabinets, telephones, shelves, equipment, etc. Clean upholstery as necessary.
Bathrooms: Disinfect sinks/urinals/commodes with brush and cleaners. Replace paper products, soaps and fresheners. Wash stall panels with disinfectant cleaners.
Exterior: Maintain stairs, porches and walks free of debris, e.g., cigarettes, trash, etc.
Thorough seasonal cleaning of all Education areas, furniture and furnishings including but not limited to: servicing VCT floors, (cleaning, stripping, waxing, buffing etc.); scrubbing carpeted areas and floor mats; scrubbing walls; painting;
Trash removal
Trash: Remove trash from trash containers. Sanitize trash containers regularly. Maintain trash liners in cans.
Completes appropriate paperwork
Janitorial Supply Closet: Maintain in a neat and orderly fashion. Keep a limited supply of cleaning products on hand. Order products from Purchasing when needed.
Submit written maintenance request forms for deficiencies.
Helps to maintain a safe and secure environment
Security: At closing lock all buildings and turn off lights. Report any suspicious vehicles or persons to proper staff. Maintain a security lock-down log.
Helps to prepare safety report.
Helps to maintain efficient operation of the school
Pick up and deliver supplies as may be necessary.
Move furniture as may be required to accommodate the needs of the school.
Provide routine cleaning and maintenance of custodial equipment as may be required including but not limited to changing sweeper bags and belts; changing scrub pads on buffer; draining floor scrubber etc;
