Senior Accountant

Grants and Pledges
department. This position will be a rotational remote position,requiring you to be onsite 1-2 days per week. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
The Grants and Pledges Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of grants, donations, and pledges received by the organization in accordance with donor restrictions. This role involves recording contributions and expenditures timely, accurately and in compliance with donor restrictions.
This will also provide periodic financial reporting and analysis related to grants and pledges to donors as requested.
In addition, this will role with have responsibility for the completion of the annual audit, audit schedules and support the issuance of the financial statements.
The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of accounting principles and investment strategies. This is a hybrid role and will require some time be spent in the office.
Essential Job Functions
Record and track all incoming grants, donations, and pledges in accordance with generally accepted accounting standards and organizational policies in partnership with the University
Maintain detailed records of donor information, grant terms, and restrictions associated with contributions
Reconcile grant and pledge receivables with general ledger on a regular basis
In close partnership with the University, collaborate with development teams, program managers, and other departments to facilitate effective grant management and reporting
Support audit activities including preparation of the annual audit work papers, grant and pledge roll-forwards, support preparation of audited financial statements, audited footnotes and all detail related pledge and grant financial reporting
Participate in special projects and operating improvement initiatives as requested by leadership
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including tax laws and accounting standards
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance
Minimum of 5-6 years relevant experience
Proven experience in Pledge and Grant accounting and financial reporting
Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles related to grants and pledges
Proficiency in financial analysis, reporting tools, use of excel and other analytical tools
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills
Preferred Qualifications
CPA or CFA certification
Non For Profit accounting experience
