Overview
The RCP II is a mid-level practice RCP, with basic assessment and therapeutic skills in multiple patient populations, and advanced assessment/Skills in select areas or age groups. The RCP II is expected to have higher knowledge, skill, and abilities level than the RCP I based on the successful completion of the registry exam. The RCP II is expected to routinely perform and interact as a professional. The RCP II can handle most circumstances that may arise pertaining to respiratory care with minimal supervision. Clinical Practice - Administers respiratory care therapeutics, diagnostic services, and leads team members when assigned charge with skill and proficiency. Routinely integrates knowledge, skills and experience to promote optimum care for the patient.
Responsibilities
Consistently performs clinical assessments of pulmonary system with precision and accuracy creating a plan-of-care that is sound and consistent with the departmental protocols and clinical practice guidelines. Administers respiratory therapeutic interventions with high proficiency, and minimal-to-no-supervision with consideration for work assignment, routinely (>90%) completes work assignment with minimal assistance. Uses effective time management in work organization and triaging. Establishes and manages mechanical ventilation with most commonly used ventilators (invasive and non-invasive) with high proficiency and minimal-to-no-supervision. Is proficient in setting up, operating, and the associated critical care duties required for all mechanical ventilators used in-house. Performs ventilation weaning mechanics, routinely develops or refines the ventilator care plan communicating findings and recommendations to the patient care team with high proficiency. Correctly documents all pertinent data and charges on the patients medical record following completion of any service and consistently communicates the findings with healthcare members on the care plan in a manner consistent with the organization standards. Performs EKGs according to departmental policies and procedures. Follows departmental collection, reporting, and documentation policies when obtaining blood specimens for interpretation with high proficiency. Maintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment, possible oxygen delivery side effects, and follows oxygen protocol appropriately. Education: Provides educational training to patient and/or family members as appropriate. Successfully completes all of the departmental, hospital and system competencies required for job category within the designated timeframe. Adheres to new hospital and departmental initiatives/policies, stays up to date by reading emails/memos, attends at least 50% of staff meetings, and brings concerns to management. Works as a team member by illuminating a positive attitude, cooperation, and communicate well with co-workers, patients and other members of the health care team. Is generally recognized by peers and supervisory staff as collaborative and helpful, and has no more than 1 substantiated complaint form staff/co-workers during the evaluation year.
Qualifications
Graduate with certificate of completion from a Joint Review Committee for Respiratory Therapy Education (JRCRTE) program.
BLS Required
ACLS, NRP, PALS required within 6 months of hire
Registry from the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (if at the time of employment an individual is registry eligible and has attained CRT designation, they will be given one year to achieve registry. ) Following one year, the individual will be considered an RCPI until registry is successfully completed.
