Salary Range:
$67.1400 - $103.2200 /hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.
The Physician Assistant works collaboratively with the physicians in providing multidisciplinary care for pediatric, adult and geriatric patients requiring services in the outpatient setting. The Physician Assistant, under the direct supervision and collaboration with the medical staff delivers supportive medical management for a defined patient population according to Hoag standards and regulatory/governing requirements. Provides primary care within the scope of the PA, with emphasis on health promotion, education, coordination of care and emotional support to the patients and families while combining the qualities of both nursing and medicine. Acts as a patient advocate in all ethical and legal aspects.
Collaboration with the Nurse Practitioner, Physician and HMG-HMTS Leadership in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating departmental goals, objectives, new programs, services and strategic plans. Plans, implements and evaluates departmental development and training needs. Expands scientific base by initiating review of literature, disseminating recent innovations and research findings relevant to specialty and patient outcomes.
Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. Supports the mission and vision of the Center. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions• Consistently demonstrates the ability to provide health assessment, diagnosis and treatment in the HMG-HMTS setting under the supervision of the supervising physician.• Demonstrates the ability to select medications appropriately and in accordance with pharmacy formulary.• Demonstrates the ability to act in the best interest of the patient by providing information to make informed decisions in their care.• Demonstrates the knowledge and skill to complete patient encounter forms daily with appropriate diagnosis and treatment codes. Submits patient charges daily.• Consistently demonstrates the ability to understand the unique needs of the patient in providing care in the HMG-HMTS care setting.• Demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment in providing care by consulting/referring to the supervising physician, as needed.• Reports all abnormalities to the supervising physician.• Demonstrates the skills necessary to accurately code patient visits appropriately.• Consistently demonstrates appropriate and thorough documentation in the medical record for care provided and recommended.• Maintains and/or is available to meet productivity standard for number of patients seen in a timely manner.• Consistently demonstrates the ability to provide health assessment, diagnosis and treatment in the ambulatory care setting under the supervision of the supervising physician.• Clinical Care: Ensure that quality patient care is delivered to all patients on a 24-hour basis, and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and the philosophy and goals of Hoag.• Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Training
and
Experience
Required:• Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program and current license in good standing by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.• Evidence of satisfactory performance and completion of proctoring requirements.
Preferred:• Recent ambulatory care experience.
Skills or Other Qualifications
Required:• Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions, knowledge of age of population served, and additional skills and knowledge of equipment may be required for hire into some patient care departments.
License and Certifications
Required:• Current license in good standing to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of California. Current BLS and ACLS certification is required prior to clinical rotation.• Current and active DEA licensure.
