Closing Date: Until Filled Job Title: Bus Driver Department/Group: Transportation Position Summary/Purpose: Provide safe transportation of students and other passengers as needed to and from school to approved stops/locations Spanish speaking a significant asset Part-time 1-3.5 hrs per day, 5 days a week
Role and Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions: Follow safety rules as students board and exit busses or cross streets near bus stops. Comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner Check the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order Maintain order among pupils during trips to ensure safety Report any bus malfunctions or needed repairs Pick up and drop off students at regularly scheduled neighborhood locations following strict time schedules Maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures Prepare and submit reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, or fuel consumption Read maps and follow written and verbal geographic directions Drive gasoline- or diesel-powered multi-passenger vehicles to transport students between neighborhoods, schools, and school activities Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort Keep bus interiors clean for passengers Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations, using telephones or mobile two-way radios Perform other duties as assigned appropriate to position
Qualifications and Education Requirements: Current and valid CDL Class B license for State of Illinois with Passenger, School Permit, Air Brake Endorsement Pass required physical and vision testing Working Conditions / Environment:
Requires repetitive movement Use of hands to handle, control, and feel objects, tools, or controls Daily face-to-face contact with students, parents, staff, and supervisors Physical Demands including walk, bend, twist at neck and trunk, squat, stoop, reach forward, climb in and out of vehicles with steps, lift up to 25 pounds from floor to 30 inches, visual acuity close/distance/depth perception, hearing to receive information, verbal to exchange information Other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position
Environmental Conditions: Work done within a closed vehicle and outdoors throughout the year Exposure to sound and noise levels that may be considered distracting Examples of Equipment/Supplies Used to Perform Tasks: Vehicle doors including van and bus, powered service doors, emergency medical/first aid kits, emergency vehicle exits/exit doors, and radio and/or phone communication devices
