Full-time position- Mon-Fri 645am-315pm rotating on-call/holidays
The Nurse Educator/Staff Nurse role consists of clinical hours providing hands-on patient care, as well as education hours dedicated to providing staff with continuing education
Contribute to the creation of a positive working and learning environment that values continuous learning, patient-focused care, and best practices.
Develops and conducts new employee orientation and in-service programs to fulfill the needs of employees working in a patient-focused care environment.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:Contributes to the professional growth and development of nursing staff through the planning, implementation and evaluation of educational programs for Perioperative Services following AORN recommendationsCollaborates with the OR Manager to identify educational needs and to support in the provision of formal and informal teaching processes.Conducts Educational needs assessment and summarizes data annually.Collaborates with the OR Manager to determine annual competency lists.Develops and implements educational programs based on needs, available resources, and current practice-based research using adult learning principles.Assists preceptors in fulfilling responsibilities with monitoring and evaluating a new trainee.Serves as a preceptor to students as appropriate.Actively participates in QA monitoring in the OR.Strong communication and organizational skills focused on high-quality care.Understands and has developed active listening skills to support the patient care team.Provides a planned orientation process for new Personnel in Perioperative Services
Facilitates orientation for all new employees in the Operating Room by organizing a calendar.Identifies preceptors to work with new employees.Develop unit-specific OR orientation plan and revise as needed.Collaborates with OR Manager and Charge RN to ensure new employee performance meets standards and to ensure experience follows orientation plan.Validates employee achievement of competencies with assigned preceptors.Monitors and documents new employee progress. Provides feedback informally and formally.Reviews employee orientation log at regular intervals and adjusts plan to meet needs of individual.Coordinates and evaluates the trials and introduction of new supplies and equipment
Coordinates educational activities related to trials of new products/equipment with the Materials Coordinator, OR Staff, and Physicians.Actively participates in Product Standardization/Utilization Committee.Works with the Materials Coordinator to develop product evaluation tool criteria for comparing products.Qualifications
3 years of operating room experience requiredBSN is required, and a Master's degree is preferred.Teaching/Instructional experience preferredCPR/BLS requiredCNOR requiredMembership in a professional nursing organization is preferred.
