The Fred Hutch Cancer Center is seeking an advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) or a certified physician assistant (PA-C) to provide an integrative medicine approach to the evaluation and medical management to Oncology and Hematology patients in the Fred Hutch Cancer Center Integrative Medicine (IM) Program. The ARNP/PA-C will provide outpatient supportive care and integrative medicine services to a diverse, oncology and hematology patient population. They will facilitate IM clinical research in this population. Integrative Medicine services may be offered from time of diagnosis to end of life. Integrative medicine therapies offered will focus on evidence-based symptom management, rather than cancer treatment, due to the available level of evidence.

The ARNP/PA-C will, within an integrative medicine framework, assess and manage basic health needs of patients, address treatment toxicities, perform integrative medicine procedures (e.g., acupressure, medical auricular acupuncture), and consult with and refer to professional peers as needed. They will work collaboratively with the oncology treatment team to coordinate care of their patients. All clinical responsibilities are performed within the scope of practice, institutional privileges and under the supervision of an attending physician.

Responsibilities

Stays abreast of current integrative medicine concepts and research base and incorporates this into patient care.Performs complex and problem-focused H & Ps and assessments for patients.Evaluates and manages on-treatment and post-treatment side effects, as well as long-term surveillance and survivorship issues. Offers treatment recommendations from an integrative medicine perspective.Assesses patients' and caregivers' readiness to learn about cancer diagnoses and treatment issues from an integrative medicine framework. Evaluates the physical and psychological state of the patient.Provides psychological support to patients and their caregivers by participating in patient and/or family teaching, counseling and rehabilitation.Refers patients to community resources and providers as appropriate, in coordination with other Fred Hutch supportive care services.Collaborates and consults with other disciplines and services to ensure safe, effective, and timely treatment as well as continuity of patient care. Care will be coordinated in a multidisciplinary fashion with collaborating services which may include surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, medical nutrition, social work, psychology/psychiatry, physical therapy, rehab medicine, spiritual health, pain management, and palliative care.Works with medical and operations leadership to continue to build and enhance the Integrative Medicine service.Participates in the conduct of cancer clinical research.Participates in patient, caregiver, and peer education.Communicates changes in patient's health status or urgent patient issues to the patient's primary oncologist in a timely manner.Participates in patient rounds, conferences, and committees.Actively participates in the development and maintenance of Integrative Medicine-related EHR functionality.Performs procedures according to licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice.Documents patient care data in accordance with Fred Hutch and UWP policiesMaintains ACLS certification per institutional policy.Member of the Rapid Response teamOther duties as assignedQualifications

The ARNP/PA-C at Fred Hutch functions within their scope of practice and collaborates effectively with other disciplines to provide state-of-the-art patient and family-centered integrative oncology care. Required qualifications/experience:

Training in a formal integrative medicine program and at least one year of experience in the use of integrative medicine therapies in the oncology setting is preferred.Training and experience in selfcare in the oncology setting, including use of dietary supplements, mind-body medicine therapies, acupuncture, acupressure, and other evidence-based IM therapies as well as lifestyle practices is preferredA working knowledge of basic oncology principles and practice.Excellent communication skills to ensure optimum patient care outcomes in a complex care environment.Respectful and ethical interactions with staff, patients, and their family/caregivers.Skilled in evidence-based diagnosis and management of integrative medicine therapies related to cancer symptoms and side effects of treatment, and advanced disease issues.Effectively be able to provide education to patients, family and caregivers about disease processes, treatments, and management of treatment toxicities from an integrative medicine perspective.Effectively be able to provide education to MDs, APPs, RNs, MAs, and other supportive care professionals at Fred Hutch in the basic principles and practice of integrative medicine therapies and how they can add value to patients' plan of care.Completion of a formal integrative medicine program such as:

The annual base salary range for this position is from $127,306 to $197,513 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
