Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to assist the members of Powderhorn Ski Patrol. The employee is assigned for duty in the ski patrol first aid room. The employee is responsible for anyone injured/ill who are in need of medical assistance or evaluation.

Responsibilities/Duties/ExpectationsStaffs the FAR (first aid room) during operating hours 0900-1700 hours or as requested by Ski Patrol SupervisorMaintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all timesMaintains a clean and orderly first aid roomProvide the appropriate medical care, support and transportation of injured/ill guests and resort employeesAnticipates the need for advanced medical technique/life support, accident investigation and post-accident mitigationParticipates in training exercises as needed or requested by the Ski Patrol SupervisorResponds to injured/ill guests and resort employees in and around the base areaAssists ski patrollers on the mountain with injured/ill guests and resort employeesAssists ski patrollers with sweep procedures as requested by Ski Patrol SupervisorRepresents the ski area to the guest in a professional, friendly, and polite mannerUnderstands and complies with all company policies and procedures primary function of the First Aid Room (FAR) is to administer patient care in a controlled environment while protects the patient's confidentiality.When skiing/snowboarding, Base Medics are to stay on blue or green runs serviced by the Flat Top Flyer or E-Z Rider lifts.Always check in with Ski Patrol Dispatch when you are on line. Carry a patrol radio at all times and remember that your primary duty is to cover the FAR.Base Medics may store skiing/snowboarding gear and equipment in an orderly manner in the north end of the FAR. Gear and clothing of family members and friends are not to be stored in the FAR.To preserve safety, production, professionalism, security, and most importantly patient confidentiality, family and friends of staff members are not authorized to be in the FAR when patients are present.Base Medics who are not on duty will use discretion and be tactful before entering the FAR if there are patients present. The Base Medic on duty or Ski Patrol Supervisor has the authority to clear the FAR of unauthorized/non-essential personnel as they see fit.Core Skills

Trained on safety precautions and use safety equipment for exposure to bio-hazards and/or contagious diseaseSelf-motivatedAble to effectively perform duties during high stress situationsAble to work as part of team, as well as independentlyAble to walk, climb and descend on even/uneven/slippery terrainAble to stand and/or sit for long periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, climb at heights above eight (8) feet, push/pull ptsLift a minimum of 60 poundsComputer Skills

Basic knowledge of computersAble to write Patient Care Reports using the software adopted by Powderhorn Ski PatrolTools/Equipment

Ski/Snowboard equipmentSnowmobiles2-way radiosEvacuation equipment (rope and climbing gear)Medical equipment such as AED, splints, bandaging, IV, etc.Certifications/Licenses/Training

Current CPR cardCurrent Colorado EMT Intermediate or Paramedic certificationCurrent ACLS/PALS certificationPreferred to be on Mesa County protocols (@ physican advisors discretion)

Work Environment

This position is based both inside and outside, and the employee will possibly be exposed to temperature extremes (above 85 degrees and below 20 degrees), sun and wind exposure, inclement weather (rain, snow, ice) and high altitudes (8200+ feet).
