The Divisional Controller role resides in the corporate offices in Nashville, TN. This position will work in office each day of the week so it will require someone local or willing to relocate. This role requires experience in the Fuel Industry and hands on experience in all facets of accounting that surround large scale fuel sales, transportation, and delivery. This person will be responsible for all aspects of the accounting function for the company's wholesale fuel business as well as all fuel activities in the company's retail convenience store business. This position will oversee and manage the company's fuel accounting, billing, and accounts receivable teams and be responsible for internal control oversight, operational accounting, billing and collections, month-end close management, financial reporting to internal stakeholders, and technical accounting support and guidance. This position requires strong leadership skills to manage a team of 15-20 individuals, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of fuel accounting principles and systems.
Primary Responsibilities:Oversee a timely and accurate month-end close process for the company's wholesale fuel business and retail fuel activities and prepare monthly operational results in accordance with U.S. GAAP.Prepare and present monthly financial and operational analysis for the wholesale business and retail fuel activities to provide actional insights to management for decision-making purposes.Oversee the timely and accurate filing of all motor fuel excise tax returns across each state (approximately 20) and respective local jurisdictions the company operates in and ensure the company maintains compliance with the requirements of each state and local jurisdiction.ssist the Corporate Controller and FP&A department with formulating budgets, forecasts, and monthly variance analysis related to the wholesale fuel business and retail fuel activities.Interface with external auditors and regulatory professionals to support interim and year-end financial statement audits and tax audits.Drive all pre-acquisition and post-acquisition integration efforts in connection with any wholesale fuel businesses the company acquires and the fuel activities of any retail fuel businesses the company acquires.Responsible for the overall performance of the company's fuel billing and accounts receivable operations. These departments are responsible for the accurate and timely invoicing for all wholesale customer transactions and fuel supplier transactions as well as the accurate and timely drafting of customer payments and customer collection activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manage a team of 15 - 20 professionals, including 4 - 5 direct reports, in the company's fuel accounting, billing, and accounts receivable departments.
These departments are responsible for all aspects of fuel accounting, billing, and accounts receivable across the company's wholesale fuel distribution business and retail fuel activities.
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures, and applicable employment and labor laws.Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing and resolving complaints and/or issues.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related fieldCertified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or ability to attain10+ years of progressive accounting experience.5+ years of job-specific experience in a supervisory capacity at the accounting manager level or higher.Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and fuel accounting principles and best practices.Proficiency in using accounting software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.Experience with wholesale fuel distribution, transportation and logistics, or convenience stores that sell fuel.Previous experience with PDI Enterprise software.
