EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF PAT BROWN INSTITUTE

California State University, Los Angeles, invites applications for the above Administrator III position.

The Position

:

The Pat Brown Institute (the Institute) at Cal State LA, is a non-partisan organization dedicated to "unleashing the power of participation" focusing on civic education and public policy research. Under the civic education and engagement rubrics, the Institute coordinates programming such as Civic U©, candidate debates, young voter engagement programming, the James R. Galbraith Fellowship, and the SELA Initiative. Our public policy and research program focuses on developing pathbreaking community surveys and research projects regarding racial/ethnic groups, equity, and public policy in the Los Angeles region. The Executive Director is responsible for the administrative and fiscal management of the Institute as well as long-term, middle-range, and short-term planning associated with its mission. The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that the Institute operates to assist Cal State LA in carrying out its mission to transform lives and foster thriving communities across greater Los Angeles. In this function, the Executive Director assumes a "community-university ambassador" role, promoting and fostering university partnerships with public, private, and community sectors throughout the Southern California region. Along with a commitment to public service, the ideal candidate will be an opinion leader, outstanding communicator, program developer, collaborator, and a progressive, innovative, and experienced manager. Familiarity with relevant research areas and current and potential constituents and partners in California and Los Angeles, including business, government, philanthropy, professional associations, organized labor, and nonprofit community organizations, is preferred. The Institute's long commitment to applied public policy and community-oriented research and publications requires experience in generating appropriate research funding opportunities.

Required Qualifications & Experience

:

A Master's degree or Ph.D. from an accredited four-year college or university in political science, public policy, public affairs, or applied social science research. Applicable public policy and public affairs work experience that demonstrates progressive growth in responsibilities as well as demonstrated fundraising/development experience. The incumbent must have expertise or knowledge of the policies, politics, and corporate/foundation environments in California and Los Angeles. The incumbent must have familiarity with Los Angeles and the greater Southern California region. The incumbent must have effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; and excellent organizational skills. The incumbent must have demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity and equity. The incumbent must have the ability to maintain important relationships with many constituencies; and to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and execute on deadlines. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Desired Qualifications

:

Administrative experience in a university (or academic) environment. Understanding of and experience with community-based organizations and nonprofits.

Compensation

:

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $6,563 - $21,066/monthly (Budgeted Hiring Salary Range: $11,666 - $15,833/Monthly). A comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Appointment

:

The Administrator III appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
