Position Summary
Maintains effect and efficient communications between the Department of Public Safety, its members, members of the MSM Community, other law enforcement agencies by receiving and dispatching general and emergency information which includes receives incoming calls for police and security services, dispatching officers as appropriate, and monitoring public safety radio alarms. Incumbent will receive complaints from the MSM Community concerning crimes and police emergencies. Broadcast orders to police patrol units in vicinity of complaint to investigate. Documents police and security service requests in an electronic records management and dispatch system. Operates National Crime Information Center ( NCIC ) console, a computer aided mobile dispatch system, interoperable radio console and telephone to receive reports of fires and medical emergencies and relay information or orders to proper officials. Performs administrative duties and serve as back up administrative assistant is required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Receives and records details of calls concerning crimes, emergencies, and other requests for police assistance; monitors and responds to 911 calls from the MSM , as well as from campus “Blue Light” emergency telephones.
Operates a National Crime Information Center ( NCIC ) console, a computer aided mobile dispatch ( CAD ) system, and an interoperable radio console.
Monitors fire and burglar alarms and alarm systems for all MSM buildings.
Broadcasts orders to patrol officers in vicinity to investigate complaint or request when appropriate; relays instructions or questions from remote units.
Coordinates departmental paging in the event of a campus emergency.
Relays radio and telephone messages between police officers and the community.
Performs receptionist duties; responds to questions from walk-in and telephone traffic.
Controls access to Public Safety secured areas; monitors the departments closed circuit camera and intercom systems.
Performs various clerical duties including completing the electronic dispatch log, filing police reports, maintaining employee and student parking logs, printing badges, distributing parking decals.
Serves as clearing house for MSM emergency call lists.
Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
Provides back up support for the Public Safety Administrative Assistant
Performs administrative related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED .
Must be successful in obtaining a GCIC Network Operator certification from the State of Georgia within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Data Entry and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) experience.
Previous experience as a dispatcher; public safety/police dispatcher preferred.

If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
