At Amazon's Fulfillment Optimization, we are tasked with optimizing the fulfillment of customer orders to ensure timely delivery worldwide.The Transportation Volume Planning team owns and operates ML and simulation systems that continually optimize the distribution of tens of millions of products across Amazon’s warehouses in a cost-effective manner, utilizing large-scale optimization techniques and distributed computing to reduce transportation costs while improving the customer experience. We are focused on saving hundreds of millions of dollars using big data technologies, cutting-edge science, machine learning, and scalable distributed software on the cloud that automates and optimizes inventory and shipments under the uncertainty of demand, pricing, and supply.We’re looking for a passionate and results-oriented Software Development Engineer to develop large-scale, fault-tolerant, and high-availability software systems using mathematical modeling, ML, and simulations. You will directly impact our customers and work with big data at an incredible scale.Key Job Responsibilities
Build large-scale, highly distributed systems solving complex logistics problems for the Amazon supply chain business.Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, program managers, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet technical and business requirements.Participate in the full software development life cycle, including writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, conducting code reviews, deploying production-ready software to Amazon's infrastructure, and supporting the software in production.Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across multiple systems and services, collaborating with other teams as needed.Drive operations excellence by analyzing ticket root causes and reducing both short-term and long-term operational load.About the Team
The Transportation Volume Planning team is part of the Fulfillment Optimization org and owns optimization and simulation systems to guide Amazon's outbound capacity planning. The team is currently spread across Seattle, Austin, TX, and New York City, and comprises research science, business intelligence, and software development.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) experienceExperience programming with at least one software programming languagePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operationsKnowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for the full software development life cycleBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fieldsAttention to detail coupled with the ability to think abstractlyFamiliarity with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and containerization technologies on AWSAmazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
