South Burlington School DistrictPosition DescriptionJob Title: Elementary Lunchroom/Recess SupervisorLocation: Assigned SchoolJob Group: Non-Certified, Non-Union Support StaffReports To: PrincipalSummary: Provides assistance to students during lunch and recess breaks. Supervises activities and behaviors to ensure a positive, safe environment for students to eat and enjoy recess time.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervises students at lunchtime and recess breaks. Circulates among students and assists them, helping to preserve order and safeguard school property.Monitors the behavior of students and takes appropriate action to quell disruption and/or inappropriate behavior in accordance with school policies. Enables students to maintain a harmonious atmosphere by encouraging peaceful resolution of conflicts.Assumes responsibility for play equipment and organizes group games and activities.Directs movement of groups to and from playground, lunchroom, and classrooms in a safe and organized manner.Assists students in lunchroom cleanup.Recommends measures for improving cafeteria services to Nutritional Services Director and/or Principal.Communicates with school personnel to ensure the safety of students during lunch and recess through collaborative supervision.General Responsibilities:

Responsible for supervising students during lunch and recess breaks and is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of assigned students. The ability to work in a collaborative team environment is essential to the employee's successful job performance.Qualification Requirements:

High school graduate or equivalent. Some knowledge of First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training helpful.Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, memos, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence, and the ability to present information effectively to staff and students in one-on-one and small group situations is required.Mathematical Skills:

Ability to apply basic math skills including addition, subtraction, and division in practical situations is required.Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or scheduled instructions is required.Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Knowledge of child development, appropriate and effective behavior change techniques, as well as direct experience in working with children is essential. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and School Board policies.Physical Demands:
