PPG is currently planning, negotiating, and executing EPC contracts for large electrical infrastructure projects, including HVDC substations, and complex industrial projects in the western US, targeting a start date of 3Q/4Q 2024. PPG is seeking to hire a Project Site Engineer stationed in Delta, UT. Engineering is executed via subcontract with architect engineering firms specializing in the project industry and market. PPG’s in-house engineering activities serve as preliminary engineering design bases and as critical oversight of the subcontracted engineering firms. PPG utilizes a motivated team of in-house subject matter experts, construction managers, project managers, engineers, and project staff to manage the execution of the engineering, procurement, and construction of various projects. This role will be a part of our in-house engineering team.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Site Engineer specializing in substation projects. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the field and will be responsible for supporting electrical substations construction teams. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of projects. The position is required to provide technical guidance and support to PPG’s construction teams, as well as be the team's direct link back to the broader engineering team on the project.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Acting as the main technical expert on site, offering guidance to construction crews and subcontractors.Ensuring that the project adheres to engineering and design specifications, industry standards, and construction regulations.Working independently or as part of the construction team to handle issues that arise.Supporting the resolution of construction issues, deviations from plans, and unforeseen challenges.Where issues cannot be resolved, have the capability to reach back to the home office design teams to obtain timely resolution.Identifying potential risks and implementing preventive measures to minimize project delays, cost overruns, and safety hazards.Processing of submittals and RFI’s.Maintaining accurate project documentation for field markup.Supporting plan review and approval process with local and state municipalities, as required.Reporting to Project Engineering Manager and Project Manager on the status of open issues.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 5 years of relevant field experience in the construction of large high voltage substations.Strong technical background in the installation and operation of electrical equipment and associated subsystems.Familiarity with high, medium, and low voltage installations, substation design, grounding, and protection.Ability to collaborate with project team members and client entities, demonstrating the leadership capabilities to ensure a successful project.Excellent written and oral skills are required.P.E. license is not required, but preferred.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
10% travel to the Paramus, NJ Headquarters.
