Network Solutions Engineer

Role purpose

The Network Solutions Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, management, and optimization of Wide Area Networks (WAN) and Local Area Networks (LAN) across the organization. This role ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the network infrastructure, providing technical expertise and leadership in network design, security, troubleshooting, and overall performance.

Key responsibilities

Network Design and Implementation:

Design, plan, and implement complex WAN and LAN network solutions. Optimize network architecture and maintain design documentation. Oversee installation, configuration, patching and maintenance of network hardware and software. Create detailed network diagrams and documentation.

Network Management and Optimization:

Manage and monitor network performance for optimal availability and reliability. Conduct network assessments and performance tuning. Implement network enhancements and upgrades. Provide advanced technical support and troubleshoot complex network issues. Coordinate with vendors and service providers for issue resolution. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on project requirements and objectives.

Security and Compliance:

Ensure network security measures comply with organizational policies and standards. Implement and manage firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems. Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments. Apply network access control, security by design, and encryption methods.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain detailed network documentation, including diagrams and configuration changes. Prepare and present network performance and status reports. Document network policies, procedures, and best practices.

Skills

Professional Experience:

At least 5 years of experience as a Network Engineer or Administrator.

Technical Expertise:

Design, configure, implement, and troubleshoot network topologies. Extensive knowledge of network protocols, routing, switching, and security. Expertise in WAN, LAN, WLAN, VoIP, SD-WAN, and BGP protocols. Familiar with wireless standards and best practices for enterprise deployments. Proficient in QoS and VoIP technologies (e.g., SIP, RTP).

Network Security and Monitoring:

Manage firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and other security appliances. Knowledgeable in network access control (NAC) and encryption methods. Utilize network monitoring tools (e.g., Cisco DNA, SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG) for performance and reliability. Experience with cloud and network management solutions (e.g., Cisco Prime, Meraki Dashboard, Cisco Catalyst Center).

Certifications and Additional Skills:

ITIL Certification (highly desirable). Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CCDP, or equivalent is highly preferred.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
