Senior Engineer, Fuel Handling Systems
TerraPower, LLC. is seeking a highly motivated Senior Fuel Handling Design Engineer. In this role, you will create and review design solutions for fuel handling equipment, structures, and systems for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor. Candidates must have extensive experience in equipment design and qualification, with an emphasis in Thermal Analysis.
Responsibilities
Design of nuclear fuel handling systems and equipment from requirements through final design.
Perform and review thermal analysis of fuel handling systems and equipment.
Develop and recommend design solutions and testing based upon thermal considerations.
Support planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for design activities.
Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant systems.
Interface with design disciplines to identify and develop plant design information.
Document design engineering work through technical writing.
Present design results in design reviews.
Review and assess technical merit of solutions provided by team members and subcontractors.
Provide technical direction and oversight of subcontractors.
Propose and initiate testing programs and provide support during test execution.
Interface with and support licensing activities associated with Safety Analysis Reports.
Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices.
Key Qualifications and Skills
Education: B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred.
A minimum of four years of thermal analysis experience is required.
Experience in Ansys, MathCAD, and Python is desired.
Experience with thermal hydraulic analysis and computational fluid dynamics is a plus.
Prior experience in the nuclear industry with nuclear fuel handling systems is preferred.
Excellent technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, creative thinker.
The successful candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate and lead a design team’s effort.
Job Functions
Motor Abilities: Sitting and/or standing for extended periods.
Physical exertion: Minimal, with ability to safely lift up to 25 pounds.
Repetitive work: Prolonged.
Special Senses: Visual and audio focused work.
Work Conditions: Standard and/or sitting working environment of >8 hrs./day.
Travel required: 0-10%.
