Applications Engineer
will play an important role at Hydraquip to assist with the growth of
Hydraquip Electric Systems
business unit. You will be the primary technical adviser and support of customers on a wide range of electric drivetrain and generation systems. You will work closely with customers and account managers to understand customer applications, specify and layout options for electric systems and help to bring these systems to life. As a key part of our business unit sales team, your responsibility will be to provide technical support to our customers including design, start-up, and troubleshooting.This position requires approximately 30-40% travel to meet with clients, manage field projects, visit manufacturer partners, and collaborate with sales personnel. Travel destinations may vary but will primarily focus on domestic travel within the US.Specific responsibilities may include:Designing, installing, and implementing new control system solutions such as electric or hydraulic motors, hydraulic pumps, sensors, and other hardware that interface with PLCs and/or HMIs.Selection, application, and system configuration of electric and hybrid electric drivetrain systems for various off-highway, marine, and other applications.Selection, application, and system configuration of hydraulic and power generation systems to be used and/or integrated with electric and hybrid electric drivetrain systems.Responsible for accurate quotation and timeline of projects for sales personnel to deliver to customers.Build relationships with key manufacturer partners to better understand products and develop product modifications to meet customer technology needs.Provide time schedule estimates to customers for the controls system design, procurement of support project coordination, purchasing, shipping & receiving, inventory management, and record-keeping as it applies to the scope.Provide technical problem-solving for current systems in the field, during new customer projects, and support projects through start-up.Organize, coordinate, and conduct electrification training for account managers and the sales talent development team.Join sales and account managers on customer visits and serve as the electrification technical sales asset for the team. Develop and maintain relationships with manufacturer partners, Hydraquip customers, and consultants as required to support the long-term growth of the business unit.Support and participate in the organization’s continual improvement program to conform to ISO 9001 requirements by complying with the Quality Policy and procedures and meeting QMS objectives.Other duties as assigned.Education & Training:BSEE, BSME, BAEET (ABET accredited university), or equivalent technical degree with equivalent experience.PLUS+1 Certified or PLC training from any of the widely used PLC manufacturers (Siemens, Allen Bradley, IDEC). Certification can be obtained within the first year of employment.Fluid power experience and fluid power specialist certification are a plus.Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:1-3 years of experience in the application and development of power systems using electric machines, power electronics, generators, etc.Working knowledge of system and electrical engineering principles and processes is a plus.1-3 years in a customer-facing technical support role.Knowledge in working with electronics, PLC programming & mobile control systems – PLUS+1 preferred.Ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics.Ability to work in a fast-paced “startup” environment and quickly shift between customer projects and priorities.Excellent communication skills – orally & written – with both internal stakeholders (sales, technicians) and external stakeholders (manufacturer partners & customers).Results-oriented and "hands-on" approach.
