Access Services Associate – Drew University Library

As a member of the Access Services department at Drew University Libraries, this person contributes to the team’s work of providing circulation services, print and electronic course reserves, Interlibrary Loan, stacks management, and library billing. This individual performs a wide variety of library public service duties and strives to provide excellent customer service. As the sole Access Services Associate during most shifts, this person must interpret and apply library rules to an unpredictable variety of situations. The Access Services Associate will be expected to regularly close the building, maintain building safety, and navigate minor facilities issues. The hours for this position will primarily be during weekday evenings (M-Th, 3:30PM-8PM). The work schedule may vary between terms and occasional flexibility is required.Responsibilities:Assist with various regular access services workflows, including but not limited to circulation, interlibrary loan functions, course reserves, carrels/lockers, and managing hold workflow.Monitor and facilitate workflow at the circulation desk.Ensure that returned items are checked in and re-shelved promptly and accurately.Respond to patron questions and resolve issues or complaints in line with library policies.Oversee student employees on shift; escalate concerns to Head of Access Services.Carry out opening and/or closing procedures to ensure building safety and meet with student employees to discuss any issues that might come up during their shift.Complete tasks in the library stacks, which includes reshelving materials, shelf-reading for order, and material shifting.Other duties as assigned.Requirements:1-3 years of library experience, preferably in Access Services (e.g. Circulation, ILL, Stacks Management).Able to use online technologies to complete tasks- email, Excel/Google Sheets, library catalog, library databases.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Be enthusiastic and customer service oriented.Ability to maintain a professional and tactful approach in all interactions.Previous experience in a customer or patron facing environment.Skills and Experience:Experience working in an academic library.Experience with Interlibrary Loan processing.Physical Requirements:Able to operate office equipment and computers to perform essential duties and responsibilities.Able to frequently communicate in person and by telephone.Light work: Able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a minimal amount of force to move objects constantly.* Applications will be reviewed as received; early applications are encouraged.
